Public Radio, Armenia
Oct 4 2006
Under the Auspices of His Eminence, Archbishop Khajag Hagopian,
Prelate of the Armenian Prelacy of Canada, Divine Liturgy was served
at the Bon Pasteur Catholic Church in Laval in celebration of the
feast of Sourp Kevork on October 1, 2006.
The special service brought together clergy members of different
denominations, as well multi-level politicians and representatives
of several local organizations, which was followed by a minute of
silence and prayer for the victims of the overpass collapse in Laval.
A special banquet for the feast of Sourp Kevork in tribute to Laval’s
Sourp Kevork Armenian Apostolic Church was also held the previous
evening at the Armenian community centre in Laval.
After the special ceremony, His Eminence also joined other community
members at the opening of an exhibition “Voice of the Caravans,”
featuring the works of Canadian Armenian artist, Perouz Seferian.
The exhibit was held in honour of Armenia’s 15th Independence
anniversary and was organized by Armenia’s Embassy in Canada, in
collaboration with Canadian Armenian organizations, held at the
Armenian General Benevolent Union’s centre in Montreal.

EU Enlargement Commissioner Issues Warning To Turkey Over Rights
EU ENLARGEMENT COMMISSIONER ISSUES WARNING TO TURKEY OVER RIGHTS
Deutsche Presse-Agentur
October 4, 2006 Wednesday 4:16 PM EST
DPA POLITICS Turkey Diplomacy EU EU enlargement commissioner issues
warning to Turkey over rights Ankara The European Union’s enlargement
commissioner Olli Rehn on Wednesday issued a stern warning to the
Turkish government to up the pace of human rights reform or risk
derailing Turkey’s bid to join the union.
Rehn called on the government to scrap or amend the notorious Article
301 of the penal code that has been used to prosecute journalists
and writers on vague charges of “insulting Turkishness.”
He also urged Ankara to implement proper civilian control over the
military and to open its ports to EU member Cyprus.
“We are facing a rough ride in the coming months,” Rehn told reporters
after meetings with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul. “Clearly this reform process needs to
be pursued and strengthened,” Rehn said.
Rein’s visit, on the first anniversary of the EU officially opening
membership talks with Turkey, comes as public support for the
bid to join the union has fallen to around 50 per cent, down from
over 80 per cent in just a few years.
Turks are upset at what it sees as double standards from EU countries
over both freedom of speech issues and the Cyprus problem.
Recent moves in France to make it a crime to deny that genocide
was committed on Armenians during World War I, a charge that Turkey
vehemently denies, have led to accusations that while the EU demands
human rights reforms from Turkey, certain countries are in fact
restricting freedom of speech.
The Turkish government is also refusing to lift its ban on extending
an existing customs union with the EU to Cyprus, saying that first
restrictions and sanctions on the self-declared Turkish Republic of
Northern Cyprus must be lifted.

Russia To Provide Significant Military Aid To Allies Says Ivanov
RUSSIA TO PROVIDE SIGNIFICANT MILITARY AID TO ALLIES SAYS IVANOV
RIA Novosti, Russia
Oct 4 2006
BISHKEK, October 4 (RIA Novosti) – Russia will allocate significant
funds for military-technical assistance to its allies, the defense
minister said Wednesday.
Sergei Ivanov, who is also deputy prime minister, is on a visit to
Kyrgyzstan to attend a joint antiterrorism exercise in the south of
the country.
“Russia will allocate a significant sum this year and the next year,
although I will not name the amount, for [military] assistance to
our allies,” Ivanov told a news conference after talks with his
Kyrgyz counterpart.
“Russia has passed legislation that establishes the concept of
military-technical assistance and I insisted on that,” Ivanov said.
Russia is a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization,
a post-Soviet security grouping that also includes Armenia, Belarus,
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. It is also in the Shanghai
Cooperation Organization, a regional security body in Central Asia
that includes China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
Ivanov earlier said Russia was ready to provide military-technical
assistance to all its allies, but does not want to impose it. So
far, Russia has provided military equipment worth 15 million rubles
($555,000) to Kyrgyzstan under military cooperation agreements.
Ivanov also said that the current anti-terrorism exercises in
Kyrgyzstan aimed to practice interaction of special forces units
against the backdrop of increased activity of radical Islamic groups
in Central Asia.
“We cannot speak about effectively uniting efforts in countering
terrorism and extremism without these practical measures,” the
minister said.

Turkish Cyber Army Hijacks Dutch Websites
TURKISH CYBER ARMY HIJACKS DUTCH WEBSITES
By Vladimir van Wilgenburg
Kurdish Media, UK
Oct 4 2006
Logo NRC handelsblad
According to the Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad, a Turkish group
called “Ayyildiz Team” hacked various Dutch websites. This includes
the Kurdish website Azady.nl. The Dutch newspaper gives a deeper
insight to the Turkish hacker gang.
Turkish hackers hacked the website of an Organisation Against Pointless
Violence (Zinloosgeweld.nl) and a Dutch Chess Union. On these websites,
they published pro-Turkish slogans. They also virtually burned Dutch
flags on these websites.
The hackers demonstrated on this way, against the removal of Turkish
politicians of candidate lists following their refusal to recognize
the Armenian genocide. The three ethnic Turks were removed by the CDA
(Christian Democratic Party), Dutch Social Democrat Workers’ Party
(PVDA).
This resulted into hot-headed discussions and condemnation from the
Turkish government.
The Ayyildiz Delta Team is named after the Turkish flag, which
consists of a moon and a star. This is probable the same organization
as the hackers group Ay Yildiz Tim. According to their own website,
this is “Turkey’s one and only cyber army”. “The battle for the
fatherland continues!”, according to the organisation. The team has
a militaristic organisationform with a top general. He leads generals
that lead different operations.
Ayyildiz’s mission is to fight against “every form of attack on the
Turkish republic. They also attack websites that threaten the Turkish
unity, Islam or websites that has a pornographic or satanic background.
websites that are “useful for the Turkish nation” are supported. If
the direction of Ayyildiz finds it necessary, then they will also
react with “violence” against “verbal and physical attacks” against
Turkey. They also attack Kurdish websites.
Because of the “secret character” of the organisation, the team refuses
contacts with the press. However, earlier before they published a book
about their organisation. They try to sell this book on police stations
and police schools in Turkey. The European department operates from
the French city Lyon. Nevertheless, it is unclear if the organisation
has a Dutch branch reported the NRC.
According to my own information, the website Ayyildiz currently
targets various Kurdish websites like Kurdistanobserver and others.
Recently the website of the Kurdish independent newspaper Hawlati
was hacked two times.
The hackers organisation also did an interview on a Turkish TV-station
and some Kurds say that the hackers group have ties with the Turkish
state.
Before the hack of Azady.nl, they received a threat in an e-mail for
spreading “lies and propaganda against Turks”. After this e-mail
the website was hacked. According to NRC Handelsblad the members
administration was lost in this Turkish attack. However, they did not
report about the database changes and the modification of the website
into Turkish. It seems that there are Turkish hackers operating from
Holland and from Turkey against Dutch websites.
According to the Turkish daily Hurriyet the hackers include students
and bank security experts in their ranks. Although most are males,
females are also encountered among them. They range between 18 and
35 years in age.
Prior to every operation, teams of dozens of experts are formed,
and these people create among themselves a virtual hierarchy with
virtual ranks, such as colonel and lieutenant colonel. Each person
has his own duties.
This confirms the views expressed in the article of NRC Handelsblad.
When the war was raging between Israel and Hizbollah, there was
a wave of political hacks. This also seems the case with Turkish
political hacks.
The newly achieved Kurdish autonomy in South-Kurdistan and the fights
between PKK rebels and the Turkish state, feeds the motivation of
Turkish extremist hackers. One could expect more attacks against
Kurdish websites in the future. In Holland, one can get a one-year
jail sentence for hacking websites. The Dutch website Zinloosgeweld.nl
wanted to take legal steps, but since the Turkish hackers mostly
operate from Turkey, this is fruitless. The only way you can prevent
attacks, is by protecting and updating your website regularly.

‘Let Us Meet With The Zoryan Institute’
‘LET US MEET WITH THE ZORYAN INSTITUTE’
AZG Armenian Daily
05/10/2006
By Ozdemir Ince, Hurriyet, September 24, 2006, the following article
was translated from Turkish by the Zoryan Institute, which does not
necessarily agree with nor endorse the contents of the article
They all want to make me puke – Article 301 of the Penal Code, the
trial of Elif Shafak, the defense, the prosecutor, the people who
express opinions on the trial, all of them.
My poor Turkey, my poor bleeding country!
How come the Justice Ministry of this government does not prepare
an Implementation Guideline for Article 301, even though they do
everything in order to paralyze the Revolutionary Laws?
How come the EU and the mouthpieces of the European Parliament
do not want an Implementation Guide for Article 301 but insist on
the outright abolition of this Article? And our government keeps on
insisting that they won’t abolish it. I think there is a pre-meditated
cooperation here. The ones that really make me puke are our human
rights defenders, democracy apostles and their followers… This
group, which neglects criticizing the current AKP government but
instead targets the Republic when it comes to Article 301, labels as
Fascist and Kemalist all supporters of the Republic and its reforms.
There is also the group that really went to extremes like the SS as
court reporters in the name of nationalism and patriotism. They are
also the natural actors in this carnival!
When I was thinking and getting distressed about all this, I learned
from Ruhat Mengi’s editorial (Vatan newspaper, 20.09.06) that Article
301 defendant Elif Shafak had said: “When I went to the US, the
Zoryan Institute educated me, and I solved the Genocide problem.” I
had read something about this elsewhere, but I had forgotten. I
always get stressed when I see the name of the instigator Zoryan
Institute. Since this institute showed the true path to Elif Shafak,
let me give you some facts about it:
The Zoryan Institute (the Zoryan Institute for Contemporary Research
and Documentation) was founded in 1982 in Cambridge, Massachusetts
in the US. There is also a Canadian Zoryan Institute (The Zoryan
Institute of Canada), founded in 1984.
These two institutes form an academic centre to do research, archive
and distribute information and documents about the recent history of
the Armenians.
The activities of the Zoryan Institute are grouped into three areas:
Genocide project, Diaspora project, Armenia project. To this end, the
Institute supports multi-disciplinary academic research, documentation,
conferences and publications. This is what it is in appearance…
As a first service, in 1984 the Zoryan Institute contributed as a
sponsor of the Armenian Genocide Court, which was known by the term
“Permanent Peoples.”
According to its Internet website, the Zoryan Institute prepared a
convincing report in 1999 about the Armenian Genocide as requested by
the Canadian Parliamentary sub-committee. As you know, the Canadian
Parliament accepted the Armenian genocide, based on this report.
Again in 1999, the US House of Representatives requested the Zoryan
Institute to prepare a report deflating the statements of the Turkish
Ambassador in Washington, who had denied the Armenian genocide.
Taner Akcam’s books spewing hatred toward Turkey are among the most
important publications of the Institute. As I had written before,
aren’t there other publishers who would publish Taner Akcam? And
this is the kind of organization that trains Elif Shafak on how to
write novels.

Neutrality Has Its Price
NEUTRALITY HAS ITS PRICE
A1+
[10:21 pm] 04 October, 2006
Today the Parliamentarians were interested in the possible losses
of Armenia due to the tension in the relations between Armenia and
Georgia. Politician Hmayak Hovhannisyan blamed the Government for
not doing everything possible for the interests of our country.
“We are too kind towards our Southern neighbor. We are member of the
Collective Security Treaty Organization where the responsibilities of
the countries are clearly mentioned. In particular, when Azerbaijan
threatened Armenia to launch war, Russian Defense Minister announced
that in that case Russia will carry out its responsibilities within the
framework of the treaty. Today we can remain undecided long… we must
make up our mind”, Hmayak Hovhannisyan said and added that everything
has its price in politics.
“If Georgia expects us to remain neutral, our neutrality must have its
price. Isn’t it high time to ask Georgia to renounce the construction
of the railway Kars-Akhalqalaq? ” Asked this question, the Prime
Minister said that he will pass it on to the Government which means
that it will be answered no sooner than in a month.

Reviving Armenia, ordered by several French film producers. The film
is expected to be shown in January-February, 2007. Keshishyan said
he does not speak about the genocide in the film, as he does not want

of French people. “I want to show the West that Armenia is developing
and is a country with potential,” the producer says.
