Cafesjian Center for the Arts presents:

Guest speaker: Garegin Chugaszyan, President of Information
Technologies Foundation (ITF)

The program includes:

1. Komitas: The Life & Works

The great Armenian composer’s life and works are presented in his
letters, music, rare archival documents, contemporaries’ memories,
in more than 450 photographs, 100 video clips, as well as 550 musical
performances.

2. Armenian Genocide: 1915-1923

The Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923 is presented in this multimedia
CD-ROM through more than 500 photographs, documents, eyewitness
accounts and interactive timeline. Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923
received recognition by the World Summit Award 2005 Grand Jury as
one of the top 10 products in e-learning category and was given
special recognition.

Lilit Pipoyan will take part in this event performing Komitas.

WILL HOVIK ABRAHAMYAN RETURN?

Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan took a leave on April 15-19 and left abroad
for personal matters. He told so the press office of the parliament.

It is not ruled out that Hovik Abrahamyan left for Dubai where the
Armenian oligarchs are thinking on their further steps.

It is not known yet whether Gagik Tsarukyan and the other bourgeois,
as Levon Ter-Petrosyan called them, have left for the Emirates as well
but they have an obvious need for a meeting. The Armenian oligarchy
is challenged from all sides, Raffi Hovannisian with his movement
tells them to repent and resign, the civil society organizations
publish facts of corruption, European donors say they will not give
any more money unless corruption is eradicated, Russia states about
compromising materials relating to the Armenian officials. The last
drop was Nersik Nazaryan’s dismissal who is so “closely interrelated”
with business. And who is not interrelated?

Ter-Petrosyan recognizes only one oligarch, Gagik Tsarukyan. He calls
all the others to support Tsarukyan and protect the rights of the
bourgeoisie while he will help them with theory. Now in Dubai they
will discuss if it is worthwhile for the Republican oligarchs to
support Ter-Petrosyan-Tsarukyan alliance.

In addition, they may decide not to return from Dubai, the capital
city of the Armenian oligarchy. It may be highly dangerous for the
oligarchs in Armenia after April 19.

RAFFI K. HOVANNISIAN CALLS FOR A NATIONAL CITIZENS’ SUMMIT

Raffi K. Hovannisian has called a national citizens’ summit to take
place tomorrow-Friday, April 19, 2013-at 6pm at the Ani Hotel in
Yerevan.

“This will be an unprecedented conversation among political forces,
civil society, and free citizens about the future of our nation,”
Hovannisian said. “We shall launch a new stage of struggle and begin
together the organization of a New Armenia.”

The summit is open to the public.

PROCESSION DEVOTED TO 98TH ANNIVERSARY OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE TO TAKE PLACE IN BEIRUT

YEREVAN, APRIL 18, ARMENPRESS: The Lebanese Commission, coordinating
the events devoted to the 98th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide,
will organize a procession in the center of Beirut next week.

As reported by Armenpress, quoting the Dailystar, the event would
take place on April 24 in the yard of the Armenian Apostolic Church in
Antelias, where prayers would be cited in the memory of the Armenians
fell in the Armenian Genocide and wreaths would be laid on the Memorial
commemorating the victims of the massacre.

The procession will start at noon.

“The procession aims at making Turkey to stop the denial policy. We
will demand that justice is restored and Turkey compensates the
Armenians for the sufferings and human losses”, – says the Commission’s
announcement.

DIVINE LITHURGIE EN RITE ARMENIEN A NOTRE-DAME DE PARIS

Cette messe, en rite catholique armenien, sera celebree pour la
commemoration du 98e anniverssaire du genocide armenien de 1915 et
faire memoire de toutes les victimes.

Elle sera presidee par Monseigneur Jerôme BEAU, eveque auxiliaire de
Paris, qui prononcera l’homelie, et celebree par Monseigneur Hovhannès
TEYROUZIAN, eveque de l’Eparchie de Sainte-Croix de Paris des Armeniens
Catholiques de France.

Le genocide de 1915 en Turquie a fait plus de 1.500.000 morts. Deux
tiers des armeniens ont peri dans cette extermination organisee.

Chaque annee, au mois d’avril, la communaute en France rend hommage
et prie pour les victimes a Notre Dame de Paris dans une messe en
rite armenien. Parallèlement a cette divine liturgie, des historiens
expliquent pourquoi ces armeniens innocents et chretiens ont ete
victimes d’un des plus grands genocide du XXe siècle.

Mission Statement:

Boycott Serzh Supporters is a worldwide, unaffiliated Armenian
community group that condemns Serzh Sargsyan’s usurpation of Armenia’s
presidential office for a second 5-year term (2013-2018) by rigging
the election.

Our mission is to boycott all political parties, financial
institutions, politicians, public figures, secular and religious
organizations that recognize Serzh Sargsyan as the legitimately
elected President of Armenia or have refrained from taking a stand
on his legitimacy, by:

blacklisting; refusing to use services and/or purchase goods offered
by said groups and individuals; refraining from participating in
events organized by these groups or individuals.

Boycott Serzh Supporters fosters the education, enlightenment and
empowerment of the Armenian public with regard to their civic duties
and rights.

ARMENIA TO CHAIR COUNCIL OF EUROPE’S COMMITTEE OF MINISTERS

On May 16, Armenia will receive the chairmanship of the Committee of
Ministers of the Council of Europe. The same day, the programme to
be implemented during this presidency will be presented, Panorama.am
reported.

“Chairmanship is undertaken as being important for the Council of
Europe period. We went through significant reforms to be able to
assist member countries in the implementation of obligations in the
legal field,” Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn
Jagland told reporters in Yerevan.

A memorandum on founding the office of the Council of Europe and
its legal status was signed on Tuesday at a meeting with the Acting
Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian.

The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe was preciously
chaired by Andorra.

FARMER, EXPERT AND SUPERMARKET EXPLAIN REASONS FOR CHEESE DEFICIT

Harutyun Ghazaryan, a farmer from Chambarak, Gegharkunik region,
Armenia, does not regard as convincing the arguments by Armenia’s
Ministry of Agriculture that the seasonal milk production accounts
for the decline in cheese production.

He also refutes rumors about a decline in the livestock population.

“On the contrary, the head of cattle has increased,” he told Tert.am.

The cause of deficit of home-produced cheese is a smaller quantity
of milk stocked last year or higher sales of cheese this year.

“The Ashtarak Kat company’s storehouse is getting empty because,
for example, it purchased 20 or 25 tons of milk instead of 50 or 60
tons last year,” he said.

He does not know the reason for the purchase of smaller quantity of
milk. “Last summer they paid us AMD 120 for a liter, and many refused
to sell,” he said. Some people made cheese at home, he said.

Hrach Berberyan, Chairman of the Agrarian peasants Union of Armenia,
claims a decline in livestock population is the cause of lower
cheese output.

He is surprised at the Armenians Ministry of Agriculture’s attempts to
deny the decline in livestock population. As a result, milk processing
companies complain about milk deficit. “They slaughtered the cattle
because they had no fodder,” Berberyan said. He forecasts a rise in
the milk price this May.

In their turn, food stores and supermarkets put forward the same
arguments as Armenia’s Ministry of Agriculture.

SAS, Yerevan City, STAR and VAS supermarkets informed Tert.am they
have not been supplied with the varieties of cheese normally in
demand for more than a week. They gave assurances that the price for
home-produced will remain unchanged.

ARMENIAN MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE WARNS FARMERS OF IMPENDING SNAPS OF COLD

YEREVAN, April 17. / ARKA /. Armenian Ministry of Agriculture warned
farmers in some regions of the country of impending snaps of cold,
urging them to take appropriate measures to preserve the future
harvest.

“According to weather service, temperatures in Lori, Tavush and the
foothills of Syunik on April 17-20 will drop to 2 degrees below
Celsius and damage flowering orchards,” it said.

The ministry said farmers may burn fires in their orchards to protect
trees from snaps of cold. -0-

L’Etat americain du Maine, a son tour, reconnaît la Republique du
Haut Karabagh

Le 10 avril, les legislateurs de l’Etat du Maine adoptaient une
resolution par laquelle ils reconnaissent la Republique du Haut
Karabagh. Le Maine est donc le troisième Etat des Etats-Unis, après
le Massachussetts et Rhode Island, a affirmer par la voix de ses
representants la legitimite de l’autodetermination du Haut Karabagh.

Une decision qui vient couronner les efforts deployes par les autorites
du Haut Karabagh en vue d’obtenir la reconnaissance de leur Etat par
la communaute internationale.

Decidement, un vent favorable a l’Artsakh souffle sur la Côte Est des
Etats-Unis… Après Rhode Island le 17 mai 2012 et le Massachoussetts
le 6 août 2012, un troisième Etat americain, le Maine, se prononce
par la voix de ses legislateurs en faveur de la reconnaissance de la
Republique du Haut Karabagh. Le 10 avril, la Chambre des Representants
et le Senat de cet autre Etat de la Côte Est, adoptaient une resolution
par laquelle ils reconnaissent l’independance de la Republique du
Haut Karabagh et appellent l’administration americaine ainsi que
le Congrès federal a soutenir le droit du peuple de l’Artsakh a
l’autodetermination et a ” l’independance democratique “.

Ils saluent par ailleurs le Haut Karabagh pour ” sa contribution
constructive aux efforts de la communaute internationale en vue de
parvenir a une solution durable des questions liees a la securite de
cette region strategiquement importante “.

Cette resolution, presentee par le representant Scott Hamann (South
Portland) et coparrainee par A. M. Gattine (Westbrook) et S. Gideon
(Dreeport), est le fruit d’une etroite collaboration avec le Comite
de defense de la cause armenienne de l’Etat du Maine (Armenian
National Committee of America, ANCA) et les responsables de la
communaute armenienne locale, dont l’avocate Anna Astvatsaturian
Turcotte, rescapee des progromes anti-Armeniens de Bakou et auteur
de l’ouvrage ” Nowhere : a Story of Exile (Nulle part : recit d’un
exil). ” Je suis tellement fière que mon Etat apporte de la sorte son
soutien aux aspirations du peuple du Haut Karabagh a la liberte, a la
democratie et a l’independance et a son droit a l’autodetermination
“, a commente la juriste de Portland dans un entretien accorde au
journal armeno-americain ” Armenian Weekly “.

Cette resolution est aussi le fruit des efforts de la diplomatie du
Haut Karabagh qui, en depit des pressions exercees par Bakou sur la
scène internationale, marque a nouveau des points dans le processus
de reconnaissance internationale de l’Artsakh.
