While the Lucas Museum dominates the headlines, Glendale’s spectacular new 50,

Los Angeles is in the midst of a museum boom, between LACMA’s new David Geffen Galleries, the expansion of the California Science Center, and, of course, the highly anticipated Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.

In comparison to these high-profile institutions, Glendale’s Armenian American Museum may be flying under the radar, but the 50,820-square-foot complex is shaping up to be a spectacular new cultural institution.

With construction expected to wrap in late 2026, the Armenian American Museum will be up and running in 2027.

A mission to share the Armenian American experience

The Greater L.A. area is home to one of the world’s biggest Armenian communities outside of Armenia, and this new museum is planned as a way to honor and uplift the Armenian American experience on both a local and national level.

Plans call for both permanent and rotating exhibitions on Armenian history and the Armenian Genocide, as well as galleries and programming dedicated to the local community, an archive center, and a demonstration kitchen.

The museum is located in the heart of downtown Glendale. Phase 1 of construction involved completing the parking garage and foundation, and the project is now nearing the end of Phase II, which involves constructing the two-level museum complex itself.

Within the past year, teams finished work on the distinctive steel facade, a nod to the Armenian Highlands’ dramatic rock formations, as well as the striking hazarashen skylight, inspired by traditional Armenian roof design.
