YEREVAN BRANDY COMPANY BEGINS GRAPE PROCUREMENT IN ARMAVIR PROVINCE

YEREVAN, September 15. / ARKA /. The French-owned Yerevan Brandy
Company (YBC) began today grape procurement in Armavir province,
Armenian ministry of agriculture said to ARKA. It said minister
Sergo Karapetian, Armavir governor Ashot Ghahramanyan and YBC CEO,
Ara Grigorian, visited the Hoktemberyan branch of the company to
observe the procurement process.

The minister said this year as much as 225 thousand tons of grapes
is to be bought by wineries, as much as last year. The minister said
grapes will be bought at 130 drams per one kg.

“The ministry together with competent staff of regional administrations
will follow the entire procurement process”, Karapetian said.

Ara Grigorian told journalists earlier this month that the Yerevan
Brandy factory will buy about 21,000 tons of grapes. The plant has
contracts with 2,900 farmers. According to him, YBC will account for
30% of all grape purchases in the country.

According to the ministry of agriculture, this year processing
companies are going to buy from 144 thousand to 155 thousand tons of
grapes. In 2010 they bought 135 thousand tons of grapes at an average
price of 124.4 drams for 1 kg.

The Yerevan Brandy Factory was founded in 1887. In June 1998 it was
acquired by French Pernod Ricard at $30 million.
