ANKARA, MAY 13, NOYAN TAPAN. The Turk tourists, who visited Armenia
a few days ago, have returned to Turkey under a great impression.

As the Turkish sources report, 29 Turks and one German took part in
the journey with famous Turk excursion guide Faruk Pekin at the head
organized by the Fest Tourizm agency and they were all very pleased
with the journey made to Armenia.

Murad Ismail, the representative of the Fest Travel agency, mentioned
that it is the first time that such a tourist journey has been
organized and stressed that the tourists were greatly impressed by
the historical monuments of Armenia.

"We were very well welcomed. Everybody was very kind," he said.

And Faruk Pekin mentioned in his turn that the most negative thing
during the journey was "the problem of lavatories" as those situated
on roads between cities have turned into ruins.

The Turk tourists in Armenia visited the monasteries of Haghpat and
Sanahin, Matenadaran (Armenian repository of ancient manuscripts),
the Blue mosque, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and other places.

The Turkish press writes that the group of the Turk tourists visits
Armenia when efforts directed at the establishment of diplomatic

TURK STUDENTS TRY TO FAIL COMMEMORATION EVENT OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

Noyan Tapan

Ma y 13, 2008

LOS ANGELES, MAY 14, ARMENIANS TODAY – NOYAN TAPAN. An unpleasant
incident happened during the event organized by the Union of Armenian
Students and Union of the Students of the Armenian Higher Education
Institutions in the State University of Southern California of the
United States of America, which was held on April 24 on the occasion
of the 93rd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. During this incident
two Turk students attacked and tried to tear the posters prepared by
the organizers and throw away the wreaths placed by those present.

The organizers of the event had placed 1500 flowers since early
morning that day in memory of the one and a half million victims of
the genocide, as well as placed numerous posters and slogans in the
open-air place disposed for the holding of the event, however, two
Turk students approached and tried to hinder the work by trampling
the flowers and posters.

K. Navasardian, the Chairman of the Union of Students of Higher
Education Institutions, stated after the incident that students were
trying to make a peaceful and effective agitation and commemorate
the Armenian victims adding that it is the fair right of every free
citizen, especially when under this circumstance not only the Armenian
nation but the issue the humanity is interested in is the problem.

On the other hand, H. Guyumjian, the Chairman of the Union of
Armenian Students, stated that one of the members of the union
informed him about what had happened and also about the fact that
the Public Security Center of the University had detained the Turk
student. However, the Public Security Center denied that information.

The Armenian students, as well as the other students taking part in
the event, soon successfully continued the commemoration event.

ANKARA, MAY 14, ARMENIANS TODAY – NOYAN TAPAN. The Turkish "Kanal-1"
TV channel broadcast the speech of historian Murad Bardakce, who had
recently published one of the diaries of Taleat pasha. In his April
26 speech Murad Bardakce read extracts from an interview with the
widow of Taleat pasha and declared that Armenians did not fulfil the
orders of Taleat and revolted and that there was not a genocide but
a war between two peoples at the beginning of the century.

Murad Bardakce mentioned that exile was not a good thing and at the
same time considered it to be a right solution as, according to him,
if Armenians were not exiled, Turkey would face much more serious
problems today.

For The First Time Minister Of Uk Government Has Used Term Armenian

FOR THE FIRST TIME MINISTER OF UK GOVERNMENT HAS USED TERM ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

Noyan Tapan

Ma y 13, 2008

LONDON, MAY 14, ARMENIANS TODAY – NOYAN TAPAN. The UK government has
at last issued a strongly-worded condemnation of the desecration of
the Armenian Genocide Monument in Cardiff, which occurred on Holocaust
Memorial Day. In a reply to Mr David Burrowes MP, Minister Paul Murphy,
replying for the UK government specifically refered to "the desecration
of The Armenian Genocide Memorial in Cardiff in January" He continued:
"I wholeheartedly condemn this violent act of desecration. This attack,
like many similar crimes, is often unprovoked and undertaken under
the cover of darkness. I hope that when the person(s) are caught and
prosecuted for this crime, this will go some way to easing the pain
and distress that has been caused by this terrible act".

"This is a most significant development," said a spokesman for Armenia
Solidarity. "In the past government ministers have made strenuous
efforts to avoid using the phrase the Armenian Genocide. Considering
the recognition given to the Genocide by the majority of Welsh Members
of the UK parliament as well as the majority of the National Assembly
Members, the minister must have found it impossible to persist in this
avoidance. The truth of the Genocide has been set in stone in Wales,
and such violent acts of desecration by extremists can only embolden
other politicians in the UK to stand up for this truth."

and said most of them will be implemented by Artsakh Water Power Plant

billion drams.

In answer to our question whether there is a possibility to carry out
a joint project with Iran which has an extended border with Karabakh,
the prime minister said since it will take place through the stock
exchange, and transparency will be guaranteed, everyone will be able
to buy shares, independent from their place of residence.

According to Ara Harutiunyan, the government will hold the controlling
interest.

With regard to the sustainability of the program the prime minister
said there is arrangement with a person who is likely to invest 10
billion dollars. There are other investors too but their names are

Eight Children Are Homeless

EIGHT CHILDREN ARE HOMELESS

The eight children of Mikhail Arushanyan, disabled of war in Artsakh,
are homeless. The family has appeared in a difficult situation from
which they have been looking for a way out for many years on but
in vain.

Before 1990 the Arushanyan family used to live in Stepanakert. Mikhail
and his wife Rita moved from Stavropol to Karabakh in 1979 and worked
at the silk factory of Karabakh and lived at the dormitory of the
factory on 42 Tigran Mets Street. The room of the dormitory where
they lived was 36 sq m.

Mikhail Arushanyan says in 1990, as part of some government program,
he signed a contract with the City Hall of Stepanakert, and his family
moved to live in the village of Khachen, Askeran for five years. "At
that time they said it is necessary to preserve and develop villages,
therefore they sent us there. But on the condition that we would return
to Stepanakert five years later and our room at the dormitory would
remain, as well as the queue for apartments since 1984. As a result
we lost the room where we are still registered," said the veteran of
the war in Artsakh. To support his words, he showed us his work card,
yellow from humidity, with corresponding records.

The family of eight children lives in a house without basic conditions
for life. It is one of the oldest houses of the village which looks
like an earth-house rather. The traces of humidity are everywhere.

They sleep in two small rooms with four bunks. It is dangerous to
sleep on the floor because it is too humid, besides the floor is the
ground. The children, shivering with cold, pale and thin, blush every
time I ask them a question.

Their little daughter Gohar, 7 does not go to school. The other
children do not go to school either. Their mother Rita Danielyan says
one of them has no shoes, the other has no clothes, besides in the
conditions they live the children have no time to have a rest or do
homework, says Rita. Children often fall ill, and there is no money
for treatment.

They cannot afford to take their son who also has disability of second
degree (got meningitis in the army and was demobilized) to Yerevan
to see the doctor.

Rita Danielyan says in 2005 his husband and in 2007 his son got
disabilities but still get no pension because they cannot change their
passports. They are not given new passports because the housing board
of Stepanakert does not give them certificate of registration. For
the same reason the children do not get benefits toll recently,
and before that a kind person had helped them get a certificate of
registration at their room in the dormitory.

The situation is more complicated because Rita, her husband and their
adult children are still registered at the dormitory. "In 1995 when
we had to return to Stepanakert, our room at the dormitory which
was damaged by a shell during the war, it was impossible to live
there. We have turned to different agencies for help. They assured
that the room is theirs but now there is no possibility to repair
it. In 1999 when I arrived in Stepanakert I saw there was no lock on
the door. I asked what the matter was and I was told that the room
had been provided to Camilla Gasparyan, a woman with three children,"
says the wife of Mikhail who does not know what else to do.

Rita says the woman did not live in the room until the roof was
repaired in 2003. Over these years she has turned to different agencies
but in vain. She has also gone to court but the district court decided
to provide the room to Camilla Gasparyan.

The Arushanyans have turned to the mayor of Stepanakert and President
Arkady Ghukasyan for a number of times but in vain. They hope that
the government will provide them with an apartment in the building
where the residents of the dormitory will move to live. They hope
the question of pensions and benefits will also be solved.

"We already owe so much money to the shop of the village that we are
ashamed of going there. They hardly give us flour on credit not to
let our children starve. We would somehow live on the pension and
benefit. Why do they refuse to give us a certificate? Is this what
we fought for?" asks the veteran of war. They have already run out
of flour and he does not know what to do.

We asked the minister of social security Narine Azatyan, who also
coordinates the problem of housing, to comment on this case. She said
she is not aware of the details but promised to study and answer.

Surprise For Mobile Subscribers

SURPRISE FOR MOBILE SUBSCRIBERS

In an interview with the Azat Artsakh the general manager of Karabakh
Telecom Ralf Yirikian said mobile subscribers will be given a surprise.

"The novelty will give mobile telephony in Karabakh an advantage. It
concerns the tariffs, the quality of communication, other parameters,"
Ralf Yirikian said.

"The Internet is a resource that can be compared to a source. We
import a certain volume of it. When the number of users increases,
to put it figuratively, the water of the source is not enough, and the
Internet starts working slowly. We have already increased the "debit"
of our source twice and we consider increasing it once more. It is
already underway," said the general manager.

Ralf Yirikian appealed to all the organizations which generate
profit to spend at least one percent of their profit on social
programs. Karabakh Telecom has signed with the NKR government an
agreement on a donation of half a billion drams for social programs.
