OFFICIAL REPRESENTATIVE OF RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY: RUSSIAN-ARMENIAN RELATIONS HAVE REACHED THE LEVEL OF STRATEGIC AND ALLEY PARTNERSHIP OVER THE LAST YEARS

Russian-Armenian relations have reached the level of strategic and
alley partnership over the last years and have high dynamics of
development. Official representative of Russian Foreign Ministry,
Mikhail Kamynin, told RIA Novosti in connection with Russian Foreign
Minister Sergey Lavrov’s visit to Yerevan.
Kamynin said that the visit of the head of the Russian diplomatic
department was being implemented in the course of intensive bilateral
political dialogue, including high level arrangements. It is directed
to further deepening of relations between the two countries that
ground on strong legal basis – Agreement on friendship, cooperation and
mutual support dated 29 August 1997, Declaration on Alley Cooperation
between RF and RA dated 26 September 2000, as well as more than 160
inter-governmental, inter-state and inter-department agreements.
Asked about the agenda of the forthcoming talks in Yerevan,
Kamynin replied that observing of fulfillment of the arrangements on
further increasing of the volumes and intensification of the mutually
beneficial bilateral cooperation, made over the current year meetings
between the Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian President
Robert Kocharyan in Sochi, will be the key point of the agenda.
According to the results of 2006, Russian-Armenian commodity
circulation reached almost half a million dollars and the volume of
the accumulated Russian investments in Armenia – 800 mln dollars. They
are also going to discuss the topics which are still relevant today:
the developing Russian-Armenian humanitarian cooperation including
the education and culture spheres. Special attention will be paid to
coordination of the efforts directed to improvement of the political
and diplomatic basis of our partnership. "We are going to deepen
exchange of views on the problem of improving coordination of actions
within the frameworks of international organizations, in particular
the CIS and Collective Security Treaty Organization and multilateral
forums," M. Kamynin said.
He also added that the most important regional problems, mutual steps
of the foreign policy departments of the two states on supporting
improvement of the situation in the TransCaucasus, settlement of
the regional conflicts, formation of the confidence atmosphere for
initiation of the Caucasus cooperation in general will be discussed at
the meetings in Yerevan. "In the context of discussion of the present
situation in the Karabakh conflict settlement the Russian party proves
its readiness to support looking for the political settlement of the
problem on the basis of the mutually acceptable arrangements between
Yerevan and Baku," Mikhail Kamynin emphasized.
