The closing of the Russian market is a catastrophe for Armenia, everything will turn upside down
June: 20, 2026
“The closure of the Russian market against Armenia will paralyze not only the sector of winegrowers, but also the economy of the entire country.” of 168.am said in a conversation with Artak Sargsyan, President of the Union of Grape Growers of Armeniatalking about Russia’s restrictions on exports from Armenia and its impact on the market.
He emphasizes that viticulture cannot survive or advance without processing entrepreneurs.
Artak Sargsyan is sure that if the market is suddenly closed to Armenian cognac or wine, the grape grower will remain hungry, because if the seller of the grapes cannot sell it, he will not buy new products from the grape grower.
“You know that today a peasant in Armenia, as the popular saying says, is a person who lives by his daily bread, if he suddenly has a problem of realization for a year, everything will turn upside down. This will put us, grape growers, in front of the most unpredictable situation.
As for the statements of the authorities about exporting Armenian goods to the EU markets, then let me say that if a person is more or less literate, has a more or less idea about the EU, knows about these 21-22 countries, then he will know that, like the former communist regime, the EU plans its actions in advance.
In addition, it is self-sufficient, has a closed economy that organizes trade among themselves. Today, no one is ready to carry out trade turnover in a surprise way, especially when it is not a border with the given country,” added Artak Sargsyan.
Continuing, our interlocutor said that the EU does not need Armenian products, moreover, the EU has standards regarding exports from Armenia. Armenia’s economy has not yet joined the European Union for so many years.
“Now they fell asleep and woke up, they realized that after June 7, those standards will change, or like the Golden Fish, what dream we keep, will it come true? This is a fairy tale.
I want to say that the EU is not waiting for us first, they are only words, they only make flattering and populist statements for only one thing: to remove Russia from the region, and to remove the Russian military base from Armenia. The rest, what the EU says: we love you very much, we don’t sleep for you at night, we are concerned about you, they are from the genre of fairy tales. This is my opinion.” Artak Sargsyan mentioned.
As for the yield of grapes, Artak Sargsyan said that at the moment they are waiting for an abundant harvest, and if the harvester only eats a part of the harvest, then if the other part is not exported, it will remain and spoil.
“The grape grower will have to take the rest of the crop and dump it. The Armenian market is not economically independent yet, and the closing of the Russian market is a catastrophe for Armenia, so to speak, everything will turn upside down. Not only brandy, wine, grapes are included in it, the entire economy of our country is connected to it.
I don’t want to say too many bad things, but may God grant that our diplomacy will be flexible, at least until August restores relations with the Russian Federation, our friendly relationship will continue, and the matter will not come to the point where the grapes remain on the ground, and the grape grower will not face a shameful situation. I just don’t want to imagine how disastrous the situation can be for us,” said the president of the Union of Grape Growers of Armenia.
He also said, thank God, there are grape growers who have contracts with procurement companies, those contracts will be legally valid, and there are unlikely to be force majeure situations for them.
“As of now, we are expecting a very abundant harvest, God forbid, there will be a force majeure situation, we will face the facts,” emphasized Artak Sargsyan.

Here’s how the election was rigged, with facts
June: 20, 2026
A general assessment has already been given to these elections: they are illegitimate, and the punched results, especially after the disgraceful decision of the CEC on June 14, are illegal, with simply ridiculous reasons.
After declaring the election results invalid in three polling stations, the commission refused to schedule re-voting there, when it was required by law.
The actual voting also took place with flagrant violations, and its results cannot be trusted.

We will not put up with this situation, we will not sit and wait for five years
June: 20, 2026
Whether to take the mandates or not, the main problem of the future work of the opposition in general is what tactics we adopt, what is planned in the near future. There is quite an energetic, open and sincere discussion on this issue both within our units and between different political units of the opposition. We will not put up with this situation, we will not sit for five years and wait for the next elections. 168TVof « expressed such an opinion during the program Ishkhan Saghatelyan, representative of the General Assembly of the Armenian Democratic Party of Armenia, deputy of the RA National Assembly.
“This government is not legitimate and has not received the vote of the majority of our people, it does not have a mandate to change the Constitution at the request of Azerbaijan, hand over enclaves or make new concessions. But it is obvious that the government is trying to strengthen its power through illegalities, violence, repressions, to show that it has legitimacy from the people to take such steps and actions. Without a strong popular movement, it is not possible to solve the problem. As a result of discussions, we will come to an agreement on when it should happen, with what mechanisms, what program, what sequence of steps,” said the politician.
“We must speak clearly to our voters and get down to work. It should be in the way of expressing the will of the people, because the rights of our people have been violated. The united agenda of the opposition is very important, regardless of which political force participated in the elections in which format. We welcome Samvel Karapetyan’s initiative, and we must develop a functional agenda for cooperation with the opposition,” Saghatelyan said.
According to the opinion of the opposition figure, the opposition is facing a very difficult and difficult problem regarding whether to take mandates or not.
“There are both supporters of taking the mandates and supporters of not taking them, among our voters and our party, and both of these views have the right to live. But the logic of taking a mandate, if we go that way, will be that no matter what kind of street struggle and popular uprising there is, its final chord, legal packaging will take place in the parliament. Therefore, mandates are necessary at that time.”
“We cannot achieve change with only the parliamentary apparatus, therefore, if we take the mandates, it should be both the street and the parliament, otherwise there is no point in taking the mandate. There is no chance of success with the parliamentary mandate alone. Taking a mandate also implies responsibility. 550,000 people voted, and it is necessary to go and continue the struggle with those demands, instead of avoiding that responsibility. The question of the legitimacy of the Parliament is determined not by our going or not, but by their falsified elections,” said Ishkhan Saghatelyan.

In the shadow of a fragile ceasefire. US-Iran negotiations begin
June: 20, 2026
Steven Wittkoff, the special envoy of the US President, left for Switzerland to participate in the first round of negotiations on the nuclear deal with the Iranian delegation. This was reported by the American news portal Axios, referring to its source in the USA. According to him, another representative of the White House, the son-in-law of the country’s President Donald Trump, Jared Kushner, is already in Switzerland.
According to Axios, the Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdel Rahman Al Thani, who is one of the main mediators between the United States and Iran, arrived in Switzerland on June 19. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi plans to arrive in Switzerland on June 20, but the plans may change, the source of the periodical claims.
Another Axios interlocutor said that Araghchi announced to his partners in the mediating countries in the negotiations with the US on June 19 that the establishment of a ceasefire in Lebanon is of “crucial importance” for Iran. Sources claim that the Iranians want to see a stable ceasefire in the region before the start of negotiations, so it is not yet clear whether the meeting date of the delegations of the two countries has been set.
The negotiations between the representatives of Washington and Tehran were supposed to take place on June 19. During them, it was planned to sign a memorandum of understanding between the two countries. One of its main points is the cessation of hostilities along the entire front, including in Lebanon. The document also assumes that a 60-day period of negotiations between the US and Iran begins from the date of its signing, during which the parties must agree on the final version of the peace agreement. However, the document was finally signed on June 17, remotely, and the meeting in Switzerland was “postponed”. On June 19, the media reported that the parties managed to reach an agreement on a ceasefire.
Let’s remind that yesterday the negotiations between the USA and Iran scheduled in Switzerland were postponed. The White House clarified that the visit of the American delegation was postponed due to “logistical” problems. Meanwhile, according to the Iranian media, Tehran postponed the visit of its delegation due to the ongoing Israeli attacks in Lebanon. However, yesterday afternoon, a ceasefire was established between Israel and Hezbollah.
168.amin a conversation with Russian analyst Vladimir Yevseyev said that the planned contacts on the Swiss platform are presented as diplomatic progress, but they are still the initial stage of the negotiation process. According to him, despite the signed memorandum and the negotiation process between the parties, there are differences between the parties regarding the limitation of Iran’s nuclear program and regional security architecture. “Iran is trying to connect the nuclear issue with a broader political and security agenda, including the issues of ending military escalation in Lebanon, Gaza and the Middle East in general. That strategy partially gives its results, but the start of negotiations does not guarantee a quick result, and the process can face new obstacles at any moment, taking into account the politics of the players included in it,” said Vladimir Yevseyev.
He believes that if Washington and Tehran manage to form another interim agreement, its influence will go beyond the scope of bilateral relations, a possible big deal can contribute to the reduction of regional tensions and the revision of the regime of sanctions against Iran. “Such a development will also strengthen the diplomatic role of Qatar and other intermediary states, forming a new balance in the Middle East. However, the fragility of the process is due to the fact that any military incident or political crisis can quickly destroy the agreements reached,” he said.
According to Vladimir Yevseyev, the possible agreement will have significant consequences for the South Caucasus as well.
“If Iran gets out of the most severe stage of international isolation and gets additional opportunities, its positions in regional projects will be strengthened. It can affect the transport and economic processes around Armenia, increasing Tehran’s participation in regional initiatives.
At the same time, even a limited progress in the normalization of US-Iran relations will reduce the risk of a large-scale military conflict, which is a positive factor for the countries of the South Caucasus. Therefore, the negotiations starting in Switzerland should be considered not as a final milestone, but as the first step in a long process. Its results can reshape the balance of power not only in the Middle East, but also in neighboring regions,” said Vladimir Yevseyev.

168: “I am preparing to write a letter to the Canadian ambassador to Armenia. I want to ask
June: 20, 2026
Several MPs from CP have decided to present a draft law that will ban our compatriots living abroad from participating in the elections in Armenia, for this they put forward a number of conditions.
“In the case of participating in national elections and referendums, the projects propose to emphasize not only the formal, but also the substantive aspect of a person’s connection with the state by virtue of citizenship. Accordingly, in order to participate in elections and referendums, it is proposed to establish a requirement of actually staying in the Republic of Armenia for 183 or more days during the 365 days preceding it, as of the 48th day preceding the day of the vote or referendum, and in the case of special elections of the National Assembly or a new vote, as of the 28th day, respectively, providing for local self-government bodies and local referendums currently system integration with established settings.
As a result of the adoption of the projects, the systemic unity of the implementation of democracy will be ensured, guaranteeing the participation of those citizens whose connection with the state has a real nature and content in democratic governance. in the project.
This project caused great dissatisfaction among the public, particularly among citizens who live abroad for part of the year and in Armenia for part of the year and are citizens of Armenia.
Ekaterina Tairyan, representative of the Canadian Armenian community, healthcare management specialist, lecturer, who works in Canada but spends most of the year in Armenia, is concerned and upset.
“States all over the world are working in the direction to eliminate the obstacles related to the rights of voters, this government, which came to power with democratic slogans, is forcing us in such a backward process of democracy. This right is enshrined in our Constitution: the citizens of RA should not be deprived of the right to vote without discrimination, regardless of the fact in which part of the world they live at that moment, for any reason. of 168.am Ekaterina Tairyan expressed her indignation in a conversation with
According to him, they will fight for their rights until the end and cannot tolerate such discrimination. He thinks that the current government is afraid of people who think independently and do not depend on the whims of the government.
“Nikol Pashinyan has completely lost his support in the diaspora. For years, we had convinced ourselves that we could achieve changes by constitutional means, but today we are witnessing falsified elections, and now this circumstance is added to it, that our compatriots living abroad are deprived of the right to vote.
The government now has one goal: to keep its own power, continue to serve the interests of Azerbaijan and Turkey and protect their interests.
With my family, we have been living in Armenia for a long time, after putting this project into circulation, I received calls from the Armenian community in Canada, from my friends and relatives living there, they are worried and very upset.
I myself am going to write a letter to the Canadian ambassador to RA, because during one of our meetings he claimed that he supports the democratic processes of Nikol Pashinyan’s government. I want to ask the ambassador how much he supports Pashinyan’s government in the process of this regression,” emphasized our interlocutor.
At the same time, he said that he is not going to renounce his RA citizenship, but on the contrary, he will fight so that his right to vote is not violated.

Asbarez: No Red Carpet for Erdogan: ANCA-WR Calls on California Leaders to Den
Erdogan’s June 25 World Cup Attendance Must Not Sportswash Ankara’s Genocide Denial and Complicity in Azerbaijan’s Ethnic Cleansing of Artsakh
LOS ANGELES – The Armenian National Committee of America – Western Region is calling on Los Angeles and California elected officials to deny Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan any official welcome to Southern California.
Erdogan — who leads Turkey’s international campaign to deny justice for the Armenian Genocide and provided direct military support for Azerbaijan’s ethnic cleansing of Artsakh — is reportedly traveling to the region for the June 25 FIFA World Cup match between the United States and Turkey.
“No red carpets, no staged smiles, no photo-ops for a genocide denier who armed the ethnic cleansing of Artsakh and calls it a matter of pride,” said Oshin Harootoonian, Chairman of the ANCA-WR Board of Directors. “Erdogan should be shunned by city and state leaders, not embraced by them. Los Angeles will not be used as a backdrop for his rehabilitation tour.”
To reject Erdogan’s attempt to sportswash his regime’s record of Genocide denial and aggression against Armenians, the ANCA-WR is calling on Los Angeles and California civic leaders to take four specific steps: issue public statements confirming no official welcome will be extended to Erdogan; refrain from any ceremonial engagement with the Turkish delegation; decline any photo opportunity tied to his visit; and affirm their solidarity with the Armenian-American community. The ANCA-WR has written directly to local, state, and federal officials urging them to make clear that Erdogan is not welcome in Los Angeles.
Erdogan is not a guest Los Angeles is obligated to honor. He comes to exploit the World Cup’s global platform as cover for a regime built on repression, Genocide denial, and military aggression — just as he has exploited international football tournaments and Formula One races before. Allowing civic leaders to stand beside him would make Los Angeles a prop in that political theater.
Turkey’s government denies the Armenian Genocide — the systematic massacres and eradication of approximately 1.5 million Armenians by the Ottoman Empire between 1915 and 1923 — a crime recognized by the U.S. federal government, the State of California, and the City and County of Los Angeles. Ankara has lobbied foreign governments to block or roll back recognition, criminalized public discussion of the killings, and kept its border with Armenia sealed as an instrument of that denial.
That denial is not a matter of history alone. During the 2020 Artsakh war, Turkey supplied Azerbaijan with military advisers, Bayraktar TB2 combat drones, and diplomatic cover — involvement Erdogan publicly confirmed. Three years later, following a nine-month blockade, Azerbaijan launched a 24-hour military offensive in September 2023 that forced more than 120,000 ethnic Armenians to flee their ancestral homeland. When it was over, Erdogan stood beside Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and called the outcome a matter of “pride.”
California is home to more than one million Armenian Americans — the majority of them descendants of Armenian Genocide survivors — one of the largest Armenian diaspora communities in the world. For elected leaders representing this community, extending any courtesy to a head of state who denies that Genocide, armed those who ethnically cleansed Artsakh, and celebrated the result is not a matter of diplomatic protocol. It is a moral failure. Los Angeles and California’s leaders must stand with their constituents, not provide a platform to a government that has worked for decades against everything they hold dear.

Iran declares victory over US
Published 18 Jun, 2026 03:10 | Updated 18 Jun, 2026 04:28
The newly signed memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran is a diplomatic victory for Tehran secured through strength and is evidence that Washington failed to achieve any of its military objectives, Iranian officials have said.
The 14-point document was signed remotely by President Donald Trump and his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, late on Wednesday and immediately entered force, according to Pakistani mediators.
The US side has been unusually muted in its public response. The White House has also yet to publish the final text of the memorandum, although an unnamed senior US official read out the 14-point document to journalists after days of criticism over the secrecy surrounding the deal.
Meanwhile, Iran’s parliament speaker and chief negotiator in the talks, Mohammad Ghalibaf, described the memorandum as proof of US surrender.
“The agreement is a record of US failure,” Ghalibaf said in a televised interview on Wednesday. “People will see it and judge.”
Tehran has argued that the document reflects a series of concessions by Washington, including the lifting of the US naval blockade, sanctions waivers for Iranian oil exports, access to frozen Iranian funds, and a US-backed economic reconstruction plan worth at least $300 billion. Washington has also agreed not to impose new sanctions or deploy additional forces in the region while the sides negotiate a final agreement.
In response, Iran “will make arrangements” to restore freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz – something that had not been an issue before the US-Israeli attack. However, Tehran has signaled that the key waterway will not simply return to prewar conditions.
“I emphasize again that the Strait of Hormuz will never return to the previous conditions,” Ghalibaf said. “Iran has the right to sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, and of course, we will receive a fee for services.”
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei added that a framework is being developed to manage the key waterway, with consultations already held with Oman, as outlined in the MOU.
Tehran has also highlighted the memorandum’s language on Lebanon. “If the Israeli regime’s attacks on Lebanon continue, it will be considered a violation of the other party’s commitments under the memorandum of understanding,” Baghaei said.
The memorandum is not a final peace agreement, but launches a 60-day negotiation period during which Washington and Tehran are expected to discuss Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions relief, frozen assets, the future administration of the Strait of Hormuz, and a final settlement to be endorsed by the UN Security Council.
The nuclear language in the document states that Iran “reaffirms that it shall not procure or develop nuclear weapons” – something Tehran has been stating for years, including during both previous US-Israeli attacks. The MOU adds that the sides will work out a mechanism for the disposition of stockpiled enriched material, with the minimum methodology being down-blending on site under IAEA supervision.
Trump made multiple unrelated posts on Truth Social hours after signing but said nothing about the deal. Earlier in the day, he defended the memorandum, threatening to “bomb the hell out of” Iran if it failed to comply.

Armenpress: Behind every refugee’s story is a human destiny: Ombudsperson
The Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Anahit Manasyan, released a statement on the occasion of World Refugee Day, emphasizing the importance of protecting the rights of refugees, asylum seekers, and forcibly displaced persons.
In a statement published by her office, Ombudsperson Manasyan noted that on June 20, the world marks World Refugee Day, reaffirming the principle that every person, regardless of status, location, or other circumstances, should be protected and safe.
“This day is not only an _expression_ of solidarity and support for the millions of people who have been forced to leave their homes, but also a call to the international community and states to reaffirm their commitment to protecting the rights of refugees,” Manasyan stated.
The Human Rights Defender emphasized that millions of people around the world continue to be deprived of the opportunity to live safely due to war, armed conflict, persecution, and violence.
The protection of the rights of refugees, asylum seekers, and forcibly displaced persons is one of the Human Rights Defender’s Office’s priority areas, Manasyan emphasized.
Manasyan noted that her staff continuously conducts monitoring, studies, and analyses in this field, prepares reports, cooperates with international and national partners, and carries out awareness-raising activities.
The Human Rights Defender also highlighted the work of the Public Council on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Asylum Seekers, Refugees, and Forcibly Displaced Persons, recently established at her initiative under the Human Rights Defender’s Office.
The Council, she said, serves as an important platform for discussing issues jointly, developing solutions, and ensuring that the voices of beneficiaries are heard more widely.
Manasyan also stressed the importance of cooperation with international partners, particularly the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in strengthening mechanisms for the protection of the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced persons.
“World Refugee Day is yet another opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the idea that every refugee, asylum seeker, and forcibly displaced person should be provided with safe and dignified living conditions,” the Human Rights Defender emphasized.
Manasyan emphasized that behind every refugee’s story is a human destiny filled with hardships, loss, and hope.
She stressed that state authorities, international organizations, civil society, and all actors involved in the protection of human rights must continue their joint efforts toward a world where no one is left behind and where the dignity and rights of every individual are protected.
