Several MPs from CP have decided to present a draft law that will ban our compatriots living abroad from participating in the elections in Armenia, for this they put forward a number of conditions.

“In the case of participating in national elections and referendums, the projects propose to emphasize not only the formal, but also the substantive aspect of a person’s connection with the state by virtue of citizenship. Accordingly, in order to participate in elections and referendums, it is proposed to establish a requirement of actually staying in the Republic of Armenia for 183 or more days during the 365 days preceding it, as of the 48th day preceding the day of the vote or referendum, and in the case of special elections of the National Assembly or a new vote, as of the 28th day, respectively, providing for local self-government bodies and local referendums currently system integration with established settings.

As a result of the adoption of the projects, the systemic unity of the implementation of democracy will be ensured, guaranteeing the participation of those citizens whose connection with the state has a real nature and content in democratic governance. in the project.

This project caused great dissatisfaction among the public, particularly among citizens who live abroad for part of the year and in Armenia for part of the year and are citizens of Armenia.

Ekaterina Tairyan, representative of the Canadian Armenian community, healthcare management specialist, lecturer, who works in Canada but spends most of the year in Armenia, is concerned and upset.

“States all over the world are working in the direction to eliminate the obstacles related to the rights of voters, this government, which came to power with democratic slogans, is forcing us in such a backward process of democracy. This right is enshrined in our Constitution: the citizens of RA should not be deprived of the right to vote without discrimination, regardless of the fact in which part of the world they live at that moment, for any reason. of 168.am Ekaterina Tairyan expressed her indignation in a conversation with

According to him, they will fight for their rights until the end and cannot tolerate such discrimination. He thinks that the current government is afraid of people who think independently and do not depend on the whims of the government.

“Nikol Pashinyan has completely lost his support in the diaspora. For years, we had convinced ourselves that we could achieve changes by constitutional means, but today we are witnessing falsified elections, and now this circumstance is added to it, that our compatriots living abroad are deprived of the right to vote.

The government now has one goal: to keep its own power, continue to serve the interests of Azerbaijan and Turkey and protect their interests.

With my family, we have been living in Armenia for a long time, after putting this project into circulation, I received calls from the Armenian community in Canada, from my friends and relatives living there, they are worried and very upset.

I myself am going to write a letter to the Canadian ambassador to RA, because during one of our meetings he claimed that he supports the democratic processes of Nikol Pashinyan’s government. I want to ask the ambassador how much he supports Pashinyan’s government in the process of this regression,” emphasized our interlocutor.

At the same time, he said that he is not going to renounce his RA citizenship, but on the contrary, he will fight so that his right to vote is not violated.
