“I See Wings,” the symphonic ballad recorded by Detroit performing artist Kenny Watson and featured in the documentary An Armenian Trilogy, has been released on iTunes, Apple Music and Spotify. The film about American composer Dan Yessian’s journey from advertising music creator to writing his first classical composition in remembrance of the 1915 Armenian Genocide victims, has also now been released with subtitles in French, Arabic, Russian, Spanish and Eastern Armenian on Vimeo. The film was recently released on Amazon. Yessian composed “I See Wings” in collaboration with his longtime songwriting partner David Barrett, who is known for composing the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship anthem “One Shining Moment.”
“The song “I See Wings” is a memorial to all souls lost to the atrocities of hate,” explained Yessian. “While the Armenian Genocide happened a century ago, the age-old question of why people harm others due to differences remains too relevant today. My hope is the language of music can provide some healing.”
Watson said, “The lyrics are about a connection to ancestors and for me that would be to my African heritage. The song is beautiful, moving and calls out to anyone whose relatives have suffered unjustly.”
Yessian, who is of Armenian descent, was asked by his priest to write a classical composition to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, when 1.5 million Armenian citizens were massacred by the Turkish Ottoman Empire from 1915-1922. The three movements of the composition, called “An Armenian Trilogy–The Freedom, The Fear and The Faith,” were originally written for piano and violin before being fully orchestrated. The documentary follows Yessian from his childhood as a budding clarinet player, to the early years of his business, through the success of his international music company, and then to Armenia where his composition was performed by the world-renowned Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra. The film has been shown at festivals throughout the U.S. and won Best Score, Audience Choice and Exceptional Merit awards.
Yessian is the founder of Yessian Music Inc., with offices in Detroit, L.A., NY and Hamburg, Germany. He was inducted into the Adcraft Hall of Fame in 2018. The company creates TV commercial music for brands such as United Airlines, Ford, Macy’s, McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Nintendo, Disney, Walmart and Toyota.

Criminal proceedings have been opened in Ukraine in connection with call to refrain from using "Armenian Genocide" term
ArmInfo. The State Bureau of Investigation has opened criminal proceedings under Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine based on the materials of an appeal regarding an amazing message to civil servants about the prohibition of even mentioning the phrase “Armenian Genocide” on the eve of Memorial Day. MP Daria Volodina, (“Servant of the People” faction), announced this on her Facebook page.
To recall, in April of this year, Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Vasily Bodnar wrote a letter to Ukrainian officials, where he asked the latter to refrain from using the “Armenian Genocide” term. The letter specifically states that Ukraine does not recognize the Armenian Genocide, and the diplomat asked Ukrainian officials to refrain from participating in commemorative events on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and refuse to use this term. Such behavior of the official was sharply criticized by MP of Ukraine Daria Volodina. “My personal opinion is that it is necessary to conduct an internal investigation in relation to Mr. Bodnar. In such letters, to name a country that is our strategic partner, indicating its belonging to one or another geopolitical alliance or country, is completely inappropriate behavior to a diplomat, “the MP said.
To note, Ukraine has not officially recognized the Armenian Genocide. But, now under consideration in the Verkhovna Rada is a draft resolution initiated by People’s MP Anton Polyakov “Draft Resolution on the Recognition of the Armenian Genocide” (registration No. 2376 of 11/05/2019).
Human rights activists who oppose the development of Amulsar mine were detained near government building
ArmInfo. Human rights activists Ara Karagezyan and Nina Karapetyants, as well as other citizens who oppose the exploitation of the Amulsar mine, were detained near the government building.
According to the press service of the Ombudsman’s Office, after an alarm was received that the protesters were detained, and on the basis of monitoring social networks on behalf of the human rights defender, the rapid response team of the Ombudsman’s Office left for the RA Police department.
It is reported that representatives of the Ombudsman’s Office will hold separate conversations with the detained persons, including human rights activists, get acquainted with the reasons for the arrest, find out whether the rights of the latter have been violated. “The Human Rights Defender, within the framework of his powers, continues to focus on the developments around the development of the Amulsar mine,” the Ombudsman’s Office said in an official statement.
It should be noted that the situation at the Amulsar gold mine has escalated after the Lydian Armenia security organization dismantled the carriage- houses, which provoked indignation of ecologists and a number of local activists. As a result, the current situation around the mine remains extremely tense. Reinforced police squads have been pulled to the crowded area. The protests are taking place for the third day in a row.
To recall, environmental activists oppose the development of the mine, believing that it can cause irreparable damage to the flora and fauna of the entire region. For a long time they have been blocking all approaches to Amulsar, preventing them from expanding the scope of work. The Amulsar mine is the second largest in Armenia. According to the company, the deposit contains about 73,733 kg of gold with an average grade of 0.78 g / t, as well as 294,367 tons of silver with an average grade of 9.29 g / t. It is located in the south-east of the country, 13 km from the resort town of Jermuk, between the rivers Arpa and Vorotan. Environmentalists and ordinary citizens are concerned that the developmentof the mine may lead to the pollution of the mineral groundwater in Jermuk and Lake Sevan. In addition to the water basin, the public is also concerned about the possible presence of uranium reserves at the deposit. The total cost of the Amulsar project is $ 370 million. The life of the deposit is 10 years and 4 months, with an average of 200 thousand ounces of gold planned to be mined annually. We add that Lydian Armenia, which develops the mine, is a subsidiary of the British offshore Lydian International.

Kilometres away, Armenian Catholicosate in Antelias damaged from massive explosion in Beirut port
10:36, 5 August, 2020
YEREVAN, AUGUST 5, ARMENPRESS. The massive explosion in the port of Beirut on Tuesday was so powerful that it even damaged the Armenian Catholicosate several kilometers away in Antelias near the Lebanese capital, Cilicia TV reports.
The Armenian Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia Cathedral, its museum and educational centers sustained damages to the windows and doors.
The blast erupted at a port warehouse in the Lebanese capital on Tuesday. More than 100 people are dead and 4000 are injured.
The enormous blast was reportedly heard as far away as Cyprus, some 150 miles away from the port.
Beirut authorities have traced the blast to a massive stash of explosive ammonium nitrate in a warehouse at the port. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
