YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 29, ARMENPRESS. A total of 23 vaccinated persons have died from COVID-19 in Armenia, all of whom had pre-existing illnesses, healthcare minister Anahit Avanesyan said at a press conference.

“The experience of having administered over 1 million 200 thousand vaccinations so far shows that the vaccination is safe and effective,” she added. “Only 79 people displayed some health complaints during these 1 million 200 thousand vaccinations. More than 40 had COVID-19 itself, they didn’t know they had the virus and got vaccinated, they were asymptomatic,” the healthcare minister said, noting however that vaccination is not contraindicated for those who are infected with COVID-19.

Avanesyan said a small number of people displayed allergic reactions and other symptomatic complaints, and anyone requiring assistance received medical care.

Speaking about cases when vaccinated people get infected and die, she said: “We have 23 citizens, whose average general age is above 75, all of them had co-morbidities like diabetes, tumors, heart diseases and hypertension.”

She warned that people with such diseases get seriously ill when they get infected with the coronavirus, and there are higher risks of the worst outcome.

“Vaccinations truly lower the risk of getting seriously ill tens of times,” she added.

Lachin Corridor Linking Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenia Reopens After Incident

Sputnik News
Nov 13 2021
YEREVAN (Sputnik) – The Stepanakert-Lachin Highway connecting Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia has reopened after temporarily being closed due to an incident, local media reported on Saturday, citing the Interior Ministry of the unrecognised republic of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Earlier in the day, an unidentified person drove up to Azeri soldiers, threw what appeared to be a grenade in their direction, prompting the soldiers to open fire, the news agency Artsakh Press reported.
The international road Stepanakert – Shushi – Berdzor [Lachin] is open again in both directions, the media outlet said, adding that Russian peacekeepers will ensure free and safe traffic in the area.
The conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh flared up in September 2020, and the region saw the most serious escalation of the protracted standoff in years. The hostilities ended with a Russia-brokered trilateral truce, in which Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to a ceasefire and exchange of prisoners and bodies of the dead. In addition, the Kalbajar, Lachin, and part of the Agdam District were handed over to Azerbaijan. Russian peacekeepers have been deployed to the region to ensure the implementation of the truce.

Armenia: opposition announces start of resistance movement

Caucasian Knot
Nov 9 2021

In the evening on November 8, an oppositional rally organized by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) “Dashnaktsutyun” was held in Freedom Square in Yerevan. According to the organizers, the rally should initiate a nationwide resistance movement.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on November 10, 2020, the trilateral agreement signed by Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia on the cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh came into force. On the same day, residents of Yerevan, dissatisfied with the signing of the peace agreement with Azerbaijan, broke into the building of the Armenian government and demanded the resignation of Nikol Pashinyan.

The rally, headed by Robert Kocharyan, the second President of Armenia? was attended by the entire Aiastan parliamentary bloc; and the faction “I have the Honour” joined the rally.

In their speeches, the organizers of the rally accused the current power of the defeat in the Karabakh war, and noted that consolidation is needed to prevent further catastrophes, in particular, the Armenians’ exodus from Nagorno-Karabakh and the Turkishization of Armenia.

The movement should work on two fronts: external and internal ones, Ishkhan Sagatelyan, an MP from the “Aiastan” bloc and a member of the ARF “Dashnaktsutyun” Party, has stated in his speech at the rally.

“On the external front, we must make it clear to the whole world that Nikol Pashinyan is not a collective image of the Armenian nation, and any anti-Armenian document signed by him is unacceptable for us,” Mr Sagatelyan has stated. On the domestic (internal) front, Ishkhan Sagatelyan has suggested to oppose various destructive phenomena in all spheres.

Turkey attempting to drive wedge between Armenia and Armenian diaspora

News.am, Armenia
Nov 9 2021

There can be no talk of normalization of relations between Ankara and Yerevan without the restoration of full diplomatic relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Former Turkish Foreign Minister Hikmet Cetin told this to Haqqin.az of Azerbaijan.

Speaking about the role of the Armenian diaspora, Cetin noted that, “In time, the people of Armenia will come to understand all the harmfulness and destruction of its impact on the political course of Yerevan.”

“Sitting in comfortable conditions in the West, the [Armenian] diaspora continues to sow enmity between Armenia and its neighbors,” Cetin added, ignoring the fact that the Armenian diaspora comprises largely the descendants of the victims of the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by Turkey.

According to Cetin, “After the defeat suffered in the war with Azerbaijan, Armenia only returned to its borders recognized by the world community. So, there is no reason for new wars here at all. At the same time, it must be understood that any new war unleashed by Armenia will lead to huge losses for its people.”

In the spirit of Turkish diplomacy, Cetin implied that normalization of relations with Turkey “will open the way for Armenia to the world”, as now “all trade and economic relations between Armenia and the outside world pass solely through the territory of Russia, which in itself is not much of a positive factor for an independent state.” Cetin even “generously” called on the Azerbaijani authorities to “build houses and roads in the Armenian-populated cities of Karabakh.”

According to Hikmet Cetin, “At present there are all the necessary preconditions for establishing lasting peace in the South Caucasus region. It confirms the positive response of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkey to Armenia’s desire, which was voiced in Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s last speech, to normalize relations with neighboring countries.”

“Yes. It will take some time for these relations to normalize and meet the standards of good neighborliness,” added Hikmet Cetin. “But it is inevitable, as it is the wish not only of Azerbaijan and Turkey, but also of Armenia, whose people, despite the defeat in the 44-day war, as a result supported not the revanchist leaders of the Dashnaktsutyun [Party], but Prime Minister Pashinyan.”

Turkish press: Turkic grouping to change its name to Organization of Turkic States: Turkish foreign minister

Busra Nur Cakmak and Ruslan Rehimov   |11.11.2021

ANKARA, ISTANBUL

Amid other changes to boost their institution, the grouping of Turkic countries will change its name to the Organization of Turkic States, Turkey’s foreign minister said Thursday.

Addressing fellow foreign ministers of the Turkic Council ahead of a leaders’ summit on Friday, Mevlut Cavusoglu welcomed Turkmenistan, which has attended the council as an observer state.

At the summit, Turkey is due to take over the group’s term presidency from Azerbaijan.

Cavusoglu said the council will accept the revised regulations as recommended by a “wise man council,” an advisory board of senior statesmen.

“In our common culture, the words of our elders are accepted as a guiding light in times of trouble. Our wise men will shine a light on our path with their experiences,” he added.

Cavusoglu said under other upcoming changes, the status of both observer and partner states will be clearly defined, and the council will gain new allure while “our unique identity” is preserved.

The Turkic Council heads of state will accept the group’s vision for the year 2040 on Friday, said Cavusoglu, adding that this will show the perspective of the organization.

“Just as our roots are common, our vision for the future must also be common,” he urged.

“In order to fulfill the objectives in the vision document, we will accept an implementation document during our term presidency. I propose that this document, which is a five-year roadmap, be submitted for the approval of our council in the first quarter of 2022,” he added.

Cooperation to boost Turkic economies

The top Turkish diplomat also said that the economies of the member countries deserve further improvement, adding: “In order to connect our economies, we have to improve our cooperation and collaboration in the field of logistics and transportation.”

The Zangezur corridor will improve logistics between member countries, said Cavusoglu, adding that this will improve to the welfare of the entire Turkic world.

The corridor – set to be built in the wake of last year’s Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, in which Azerbaijan liberated some 300 settlements from Armenian occupation – is set to connect western Azerbaijan to its autonomous exclave of Nakhchivan.

Cavusoglu also again congratulated Azerbaijan on the first anniversary of its victory in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which previously had been under Armenian occupation for 28 years.

Speaking at the foreign ministers’ meeting one day before the summit on Friday in Istanbul, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov hailed Turkey’s high-level political and moral support for Azerbaijan in its victory in the Second Karabakh War.

Bayramov thanked the Turkic Council and all friendly countries that supported Azerbaijan during the war in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

He said Azerbaijan has started reconstruction in regions liberated from the Armenian occupation: “Transport, communication and infrastructure projects are in everyone’s interest. I believe that these projects will contribute to peace, security and development in the region and create additional opportunities for the entire Turkic world and other countries,” he said.

Bayramov noted that the Zangezur corridor will further strengthen cooperation and increase trade volume among regional countries, urging friendly and partner countries to take advantage of the opportunity.

Regarding Turkish-Azerbaijani relations, Bayramov said the strategic alliance between the two nations, and their common projects encourage broader regional cooperation.

The Turkic Council was formed in 2009 to promote cooperation among Turkic-speaking states. It consists of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan as member countries, and Hungary as an observer state.
