"Next Generation Will Face Problem"

“NEXT GENERATION WILL FACE PROBLEM”

Former head of the RA Central Bank Bagrat Asatryan says Armenia is
currently in a miserable state and regrets to say that it is more
negative than positive.

Chairman of the NA standing committee on social affairs, Republican
(HHK) MP Hakob Hakobyan tends to differ and says the country isn’t in
a miserable state. However, Hakobyan also mentioned that the government
hasn’t been able to exercise all of its rights for social development.

During today’s press conference, former head of the Central Bank
Bagrat Asatryan said Armenia is a country where 5-10 people have a
dominant position and where individuals decide who should be doing
business. He also mentioned that the number of emigrants has increased
and the birth rate has reduced.

HHK MP Hakob Hakobyan immediately gave a counterargument and said
there are more people being born than dying. “However, the society
can’t solve this issue, and the next generation will face a problem,”
said Hakobyan in closing.

According to Asatryan, the Armenian government doesn’t want to work
on solving the issues facing the country.

“One gets the impression that the government is tired,” said Bagrat
Asatryan.

Touching upon the opposition-government dialogue, Bagrat Asatryan
mentioned that if the dialogue continues, the people would benefit
from it.

MP Hakob Hakobyan said dialogue is a new political culture and if it
had started earlier, the events of March 1 wouldn’t have happened.

A. ORUJLU: AZERBAIJAN DOES NOT HAVE A FOREIGN POLICY STRATEGY

On Wednesday Civil Movement for Democracy “Public Chamber” (CMDPC)
held discussing in the headquarters of “Musavat” party on the topic:
“WikiLeaks: world, region, Azerbaijan.”

Head of the Research Centre “East-West”, a political expert Arastun
Orujlu made a report. He noted that the materials disclosed on website
shed light on Azerbaijan’s foreign policy, and in particular on the
relationship with Turkey, Iran, Russia and Georgia.

According to the expert, the diplomatic dispatches on the site have
revealed the lack of any foreign policy by official Baku. He sharply
criticized the attitude towards Turkey, which received the first blow
not from Iran, not from Russia and Armenia, but from the Azerbaijani
authorities.

At the same time, criticizing at the meetings with the Americans,
the Kremlin and Russia’s political situation, official Baku again
has demonstrated its insincerity towards Russia.

Orujlu considered inappropriate, illegal and unjustified Azerbaijan’s
interference in the process of normalizing relations between Armenia
and Turkey. At the same time, the expert considers unreasonable
demands of Turkey to Azerbaijan to revise its relations with Israel.

“Baku’s requirements to Ankara now turn around like a boomerang”,
said the expert.

Concerning the relations with Israel, Baku can review them, if Israel
seriously improves relations with Armenia.

In conclusion, the Civil Movement demanded from the official Baku
explanations due to the deterioration of relations with Turkey and
explanations regarding the links with a number of senior officials
with Iran.

ANKARA: Hebrew, Armenian Departments Draw More Interest At Kayseri U

HEBREW, ARMENIAN DEPARTMENTS DRAW MORE INTEREST AT KAYSERI UNIVERSITY

Today’s Zaman
Sept 22 2011
Turkey

The number of students registered in the departments of Hebrew and
Armenian languages at Kayseri’s Erciyes University (ERU) has increased
this academic year, contrary to concerns that Turkey’s currently
stormy political relationships with Armenia and Israel would result
in decreased interest.

The departments of Hebrew and Armenian were opened at ERU last year.

The university’s assistant rector, Professor Metin Hulagu, told the
Anatolia news agency that the departments have seen more interested
students this academic year than in their debut year. Last year 12
students were registered in the Department of Hebrew Language and
Literature, which is the only one in Turkey, while 28 applied to
register in the department this year. The Department of Armenian
Language and Literature also saw an increase, with 15 applicants and
12 registered students this year, up from six last year.

“The number of students who wanted to study Hebrew and Armenian
increased by more than 100 percent compared to last year. Twenty-eight
students applied to the Department of Hebrew Language and Literature
this year, and 20 of them were registered. Fifteen students applied
to the Department of Armenian Language and Literature, and 12 of them
were registered,” Hulagu elaborated.

The professor said he has observed that today’s youth appreciate a
realistic approach to evaluating world events. “Some thought that
students would not be interested in the Hebrew language, due to the
recent political and military troubles between Turkey and Israel,
or in the Armenian language, because of difficult Turkish-Armenian
relations. But we see that this is not the case: our youth are not
put off from these topics by day-to-day politics. They can think
objectively and see the world realistically. I congratulate those
who registered in these departments,” he added.

Professor Hulagu also said that the graduates of the Hebrew and
Armenian language departments are not likely to remain unemployed.

“The graduates of these departments will able to find jobs easily
in both the private and public sectors. Students who study either
of these languages can work in the import and export departments of
big companies because there are not many people [in Turkey] who can
speak these languages, especially Hebrew.”
