Khazar Ibragim: "The statement made by the Foreign Minister of
Armenia is nothing but an attempt to mislead the community of his
country"

26 December 2007 [14:48] – Today.Az

Khazar Ibragim, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan,
commented on the statement of the Foreign Minister of Armenia Vardan
Oskanyan which says that the document discussed during negotiations
fixes the right of Nagorno-Garabagh people for self-determination.

He announced that there is no such concept as "peoples of Nagorno
Garabagh", there are only Azerbaijani and Armenian communities.

"The said issue was not discussed during the talks regarding the
peaceful settlement of Nagorno-Garabagh conflict and its discussion
will never take place. By such statements, the Armenian leadership
tries to mislead the communities of both countries", Kh.Ibragim said.

He noted that the talks on the said conflict are based on the
territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

"Azerbaijan has never discussed its territorial integrity and will
never do, as our policy implies restoration of territorial
integrity", the spokesman noted.

"Resolution 106 A Big Slap In The Face To Turkey"

"RESOLUTION 106 A BIG SLAP IN THE FACE TO TURKEY"

"Establishing ties between the Diaspora and the homeland in
Soviet years was difficult," Harutyun Arzumanyan, Tekeyan society
representative from the USA and Canada, said today at a press
conference. The society was one of the first to create a bridge
between Armenia and the Diaspora.

"After independence, it became easier for Diaspora Armenian
organizations to communicate with the homeland. They invited artists
from Armenia, thus acquainting themselves with Armenian culture,"
he said. Yervant Azarian then pointed out that "slowly but surely,
drops of water make their way through marble. Of course, we have
schools and churches, but without government help, it is hard to
maintain these institutions."

Turning to the subject of House Resolution No. 106, they
are of the belief that the supposed enthusiasm in congress is
exaggerated. "Resolution 106 is a national question. There isn’t
a lot of weight to it; it is more symbolic than anything. Rudolf
Perina cannot express himself in the same way John Evans did," Azarian
said. In his opinion, even though the discussion of 106 is symbolic,
it is still a big American slap in the face to Turkey.

Barrel of oil equivalent ("boe") amounts may be misleading,
particularly if used in isolation. A boe conversion ratio has been
calculated using a conversion rate of six thousand cubic feet of
natural gas to one barrel and is based on an energy equivalent
conversion method application at the burner tip and does not
necessarily represent an economic value equivalent at the wellhead.

Bush Recognized Existence Of CIA Secret Prisons

BUSH RECOGNIZED EXISTENCE OF CIA SECRET PRISONS
PanARMENIAN.Net
07.09.2006 13:50 GMT+04:00
/PanARMENIAN.Net/ US President George Bush has recognized the
existence of CIA secret prisons. He reported that 14 prisoners, kept
there on suspicion in complicity in terrorist actions, are sent to
an American base in Guantanamo in Cuba and they will appear before
the court. Among them is Halid Sheik Mohammed, considered one of the
organizers of the September 22 attacks on New York and Washington.
In the President’s words, he reported about the CIA prisons, as the
interrogation of the prisoners is complete. Another cause is that the
US Supreme Court has banned using military tribunals for considerations
of cases of people suspected of terrorism.
This spring the European Parliament commission has established
that governments of some European countries had helped the CIS to
secretly transport suspects. Human rights organizations stated that
US authorities took suspects to countries, where they were tortured.
Dick Marty, who being commissioned by the CE studied the issue of
secret prisons, stated that European governments should make public
the information they have on the CIA secret program, reports the BBC
Russian Service.

Video Captures Memories Of WWII

VIDEO CAPTURES MEMORIES OF WWII
By Melody Hanatani/ Staff Writer
Belmont Citizen-Herald, MA
May 25 2006
Markar Markarian was only a teenager when he was sitting in a cargo
plane hundreds of feet above the Pacific Ocean, under attack from
the Japanese.
The incident occurred in the midst of World War II and Markarian,
an 18-year-old from South Boston, was serving in the 25th Ordinance
Company, traveling around the Pacific repairing artillery weapons
for the United States military.
The day when the Japanese shot at his plane was the most action he
saw during his three years in service.
“I didn’t know if I was going to get home,” said Markarian, now an
82-year-old Belmont resident.
Markarian’s story will be told along with nine other local
Armenian-American veterans in a documentary titled “Our Boys: Armenian
World War II Veterans.”
The documentary was co-produced by Lexington residents Tom Spera and
Roger Hagopian, whose fathers served in the war.
The film will premiere this evening at the Armenian Library and Museum
of America in Watertown.
According to Hagopian, Spera wanted to find a way to honor veterans
after the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. Spera approached
Hagopian, a filmmaker, and the two spent the past year interviewing
veterans about the war, and interviewing women about their experiences
on the home front.
Hagopian grew up hearing stories about World War II from his father
and the many other veterans who were around him. The 10 interviewees
in the documentary either attend the Armenian Memorial Church in
Watertown or the First Armenian Church in Belmont.
They range in age from 70 to 95.
“I felt most comfortable going to them because I already had a prior
relationship with them,” Hagopian said last week. “A lot of these
guys grew up together in Watertown.”
All the veterans are children of parents who survived the Armenian
genocide. Almost half of the veterans in the documentary had lost a
parent by the time World War II began, Hagopian said.
Some soldiers revealed stories they had kept secret for more than
60 years. Hagopian said these include secrets they kept from their
own family.
“They are humble guys who didn’t ask to be interviewed but they
cooperated enthusiastically,” he said.
One veteran lost his brother in the war. He has spent the past 60
years trying to make some sense of the death.
“His brother died so he could live, that’s the way he felt,”
Hagopian said.
Veterans’ wives and relatives recall life on the home front and their
roles in comforting soldiers.
“They were young kids,” Hagopian said of the veterans. “They were 17
and 18 years old, and they responded to a national crisis and they
were patriotic, they were heroic and they were humble … and some
of them made the ultimate sacrifice.”
Markarian’s division was sent to fix weapons in areas that had already
been cleared off from battle.
He remembers staying on an island off the Philippines and seeing the
Japanese soldiers come down the mountains with no clothes or guns. He
said the Japanese would occasionally steal their food.
There were periods of weeks and months when Markarian and his fellow
comrades would be bored from lack of work.
He recalls one four-month workless period when he created a ping-pong
table out of gun crates.
Markarian was in the Philippines when his division was told that
troops were en route to Japan to drop the atomic bomb.
It was good news for some soldiers who had been there for 18 months
and had no idea when they would be able to return home.
“There were six of us who went in as replacements and [the other
soldiers] said, ‘You are going to die here, we have been here 18
months and there is no sign of us going out,'” Markarian said.
Markarian was discharged in 1946, about half a year after the war
ended.
He slowly made his way back to Massachusetts, first stopping in
Seattle where he contacted his parents at 2 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.
He then went to Fort Devens and eventually made his way to North
Station in Boston where he took the train to Broadway Station and
took a cab home.
Markarian moved to Belmont around 1953, after he married. He and his
wife raised two daughters who later married two brothers.
He has attended the Memorial Day Parade in Belmont almost every year
since he moved to town. Watching the annual parade always gives him
the same feeling.
“I feel tingling in my body when the flag goes by,” he said. “I’m
still very proud.”
“Our Boys: Armenian World War II Veterans” will be shown at 7:30
p.m. tonight at the Armenian Library and Museum of America, located
at 65 Main St. in Watertown Square. Admission is free (donations
appreciated). The filmmakers will be on hand to answer questions
and discuss the making of the video, which runs for approximately 55
minutes. A reception with refreshments will follow.

The Fate of <<A1+”>> Will Be Decided on May 25

A1+
THE FATE OF «A1+» WILL BE DECIDED ON MAY 25
[06:04 pm] 07 April, 2006
more images The applications received for the
competitions for the radio frequencies FM 90.3 and FM
90.7 MHz were unpacked today. The `Meltex’ LTD, that
is the TV Company `A1+’ participates in both
competitions. Its competitors were the `Ulysses’ LTD
in the firs competition and the `Radio-Pro’ LTD in the
second.
‘ULYSSES-MEDIA’ DID NOT REVEAL ITSELF
On March 28 when we learned that «Ulysses-Media» LTD
participated in the competition for the radio
frequency FM 90.3 MHz, the «A1+» correspondent tried
to find out the telephone number of the company from
the information service. She was given the telephone
number of the cinema `Nairi’. When the information
appeared on the website of A1+, the representative of
`Ulysses-Media’ phoned us refuting the information and
promised to reveal their identity on the day of
unpacking the offers, that’s to say – today.
But there was no revelation. Asked by `A1+’ what they
had been engaged in by now Norayr Mkhoyan, the chief
producer of the `Ulysses-Media’ LTD answered, `Who
knows, knows, and who doesn’t, will learn it as time
goes by’. `Modern music channel for everyone’, this
was the definition the producer gave to their channel
which is to broadcast round the clock.
Gevorg Yeghiazaryan, head of the creative department
of the company represented the programs of the radio
station Ulysses. The program `Pastime’, «Radio-Video»,
«Hidden Microphone» and others will be broadcast by
«Ulysses». Once in every two hours a news program will
be broadcast. But the news will refer to the life of
the people from the show business.
In case of getting a license the company will make an
investment of 35 million AMD within the coming 7
years. 20 million AMD will be spent during the coming
year. 14 million of the sum will be spent on technical
equipment. By the way, before the broadcasting the
company will start an advertising campaign in
magazines. As for the staff, «they must have higher
education and must have a good knowledge of the
language», in this case Norayr Mkhoyan meant the
Armenian language.
According to him, «the company has computers, and
preliminary work is done to gather staff for making
programs».
Beside the fact that the head of «Ulysses-Media» is
Arthur Mouradyan, nothing else could be revealed about
the company. And the correspondent of the Radio
station «Azatutyun» managed to find out that the
judicial address of the company is Aleq Manoukyan – 5:
this is the address of the Radio House, as well as the
Public TV Radio Company.
YOUR FACE SEEMS FAMILIAR
Alexander Ter-Hovakimyan who represented the «Radio
Pro» LTD in the competition for the frequency FM 90.7
was more «open» with the journalists. He informed that
he is a doctor, head of the Doctor students’
Association of Armenia, head of five NGOs. He also
said that he is not member of any party.
The Company «Radio-Pro» was created especially with
the aim of participating in the competition as,
according to one of the founders Alexander
Ter-Hovakimyan, «If we look upon the radio as a field
of business, it is profit-making». As for how much
profit he expects to make, he did not reveal. The
company does not possess any equipment yet, but
according to Ter-Hovakimyan the 27 million AMD to be
invested for the coming year will be enough to get the
necessary equipment.
The Radio station of the «Radio Pro» will be called
«Radio Yerevan». Its programs will be called `Armenia
today’, `Javakhq today’, `Artsakh today’, `The world
today’, `Wicked tongues’, and others. As for the
staff, the problem has not been solved yet.
By the way, when one of the journalists tried to learn
where Alexander Ter-Hovakimyan’s face was familiar
from, he helped her to recall informing that he used
to play KVN, and now he is member of the KVN students
league jury.
‘LISTEN TO US, RECOGNIZE YOURSELVES’
This is the motto with which the `A1+’ Radio Company
will work, of course if the National Committee of
Television and Radio gives him the possibility. `Our
station will first of all be informative and
up-to-dated’, `A1+’ promises. All the technical means
possible will be used to secure round-the-clock
broadcasting.
22 million AMD will be invested for enhancing the
activity of the company and the future development.
The sums received from the commercials will also be
used for the development of the radio station.
According to the calculations of the «A1+»
representative, if the cost of 1 minute of radio
commercial is established at least 1000 AMD, the
monthly income will be 12 000 USD.
«A1+» will broadcast radio programs for different
people 24 hours a day. 80% of the programs will be of
their own production. The volume of news programs will
be 35-40%.
Let us remind you that after being banned from air on
April 2, 2002, these are the 11th and 12th
competitions in which «A1+» is participating. And the
question if four years after closing down «A1+» will
have the chance to broadcast will get its answer on
May 25 after the decision of the National Committee of
Television and Radio.

Azeri court sentences three former POWs for high treason

The Azerbaijani court for grave crimes has sentenced three national
army servicemen to long prison terms for high treason, Turan news
agency has reported. The three were charged with desertion and
contacts with the Armenian intelligence service while in captivity.
The court sentenced Sgt Ruslan Bakirov and Pte Xayal Abdullayev to 12
and Pte Hikmat Tagiyev to 11 years’ imprisonment after they pleaded
partly guilty.
In February 2005, the three servicemen deserted from their military
unit and went to the Armenian-controlled part of Azerbaijan’s Tartar
District where they established contacts with the Armenian
intelligence service, Turan said. They were handed over to Azerbaijan
in May 2005 and then arrested and put on trial, the agency added.
