Obama vs Romney: Part 1

Mitt Romney’s rally

The U.S. Embassy gave an opportunity to Mediamax’s correspondent Aram
Araratyan to watch the process of the U.S. presidential election
campaign. A special project was born as a result of his trip to the
U.S. and today we are presenting you its first part.

Denver. Evening, October 1. Two days are left till the first debates
with President Barack Obama which may prove crucial. Today, the
Republican Party presidential contender, former governor of
Massachusetts, Mormon and millionaire Mitt Romney is meeting with his
supporters from Colorado.

One should be quite lucky to be present at such rallies. At least,
because one is given the unique chance to compare what he saw on TV
and live picture. The first and most significant impression from Mitt
Romney’s meeting with his Denver supporters is the great festive show.
Even if there is a tough struggle going on behind the scenes with the
use of legal or illegal methods, Americans show everything in public
the way you feel you are not in an important political event but a
Christmas holiday with festive posters and merry songs.

The venue chosen by Romney for meeting his supporters, Wings Over the
Rockies Air and Space Museum of Denver, is also symbolical. Most
likely, the modern fighters located on the perimeter are meant to
serve reflection of Mitt Romney’s views who thinks the U.S. should be
more decisive and tough on the international arena.

First people hear speeches of a few of Romney’s supporters and several
patriotic songs, for instance, famous “Glory, glory, hallelujah!’ and
then the presidential contender himself comes to the stage. Romney
appears against the background of huge 4 letters of “J O B S” which
stand for whole his election campaign: the candidate places the accent
on the economy in the first place.

“Each sixth American lives in poverty”, “23mln people are unemployed”,
“the unemployment rate in the U.S. has been above 8% over 43
consecutive months”, “we don’t see real economy recovery and the
President’s plan doesn’t work”. These are the main theses of Mitt
Romney’s speech. All this is accompanied with rhetorical questions –
“do you want four more such years?” – and statements that the it’s
him, Mitt Romney, that’s going to be the next owner of the White
House.

“Go and find a man who will vote for Obama or two, three, four or five
and persuade them to join our team”, the republican says at the end of
his speech.

Romney’s speech lasted about 20 minutes. It’s hard to speak about the
impression the Republican contender made. There wasn’t any impression
as such, though. Romney seems to be a man without any charisma and
charm. It’s difficult to conceive he could light a fire in eyes and
hearts of people as Barack Obama does. It’s hard to figure out what he
lacks more – charisma, experience, sophistication, accurately
elaborated strategy or everything at once.

Mitt Romney’s major slip in this campaign was the statement he made
during the close meeting with a group of rich sponsors which leaked
into the media. At the meeting, Romney stated that Barack Obama’s
voters “are unable of providing means for themselves and live at the
expense of the state”. Many experts gave him up as a bad job after
that but Romney managed to “survive” as he managed to survive in the
business over many years as the head of Bain Capital for 25 years.

To be continued.

Chance To Correct Geopolitics

CHANCE TO CORRECT GEOPOLITICS

Every Armenian patriot, including members of parliament and
leaders of political parties, should try to be on the board of the
Yerevan-Stepanakert flight.

There is information that tickets for this flight are available. Along
with this, these regular flights should be continued since it is
a serious step towards NKR recognition and the exclusion of any
interference of Azerbaijan in internal affairs of Karabakh. Military
actions are quite possible, but in terms of strategy and historical
perspective, it would be a chance to destroy Azerbaijan and thus make
a fundamental change in the geopolitical trends.

The losses in this war will be ten times less than in the war of
future. Now, there are possibilities to eliminate all the military-air
and missile forces of Azerbaijan, cause great damage to civil aviation
and infrastructure of the enemy, and, of course, the oil and gas on
complex on the land and at sea.

Western oil companies are convinced that the risk assessments and
proposals by their analysts are relative and do not correspond to
reality. We are waiting for an invitation to board the plane Yerevan
– Stepanakert.

Will Putin Temp Armenia With Cheap Gas?

WILL PUTIN TEMP ARMENIA WITH CHEAP GAS?
Naira Hayrumyan

Story from Lragir.am News:

Published: 13:02:28 – 12/10/2012

Russia, judging by the statements of the prime minister of Ukraine,
Azarov, proposed to pay 140 USD for one cubic of gas if this country
agrees to join the Customs’ union. But Kiev, apparently, decided
to reject the proposal. Yesterday, Azarov said that Putin’s policy
forced Ukraine invest colossal means in the shale gas exploration,
and in 10 years, the country will be able to meet its gas demand. He
also stated that Russia is losing a major gas costumer.

Ukraine is resisting and isn’t giving in to Russia’s pressure. What
about Armenia? If Putin’s visit to Armenia, as the Armenian Time
reports, will really be held in a month, it is evident that Armenia
will also be proposed the same or a lower gas price in exchange of
accession to the Customs’ Union.

Armenia, in the face of the prime minister, has stated more than
once that it can’t join a union having no land borders with its
members. In answer, Vladimir Putin, during his August meeting with
Serzh Sargsyan, said that he accepts that reason so he ordered to
work out the necessary legislative basis to allow countries join the
union without common borders.

So, Putin may state in Yerevan that the legislative basis is already
there and nothing hinders Armenia to join the union. What will Tigran
Sargsyan say then? What new motives will be invented?

In the end, nothing should be invented. It is enough to state openly
that Armenia’s path of development takes us toward Europe, so, it is
not going to enter other unions, but the European Union. Do it like
Ukraine did, the authorities of which tell their people publicly that
Putin is trying to repress them with the help of gas prices to make
them leave the path to Europe.

Vladimir Putin evidently strengthened the anti-Western rhetoric and is
undertaking concrete steps to integrate the post-Soviet territory. He
has already reached agreements with some central Asian republics,
and, actually, only Armenia and Ukraine are left.

So, Armenia will have to choose between cheap gas and European
prospects. Ukraine has apparently already made its choice despite the
“pro-Russian” Yanukovich. What will the “pro-Western” Serzh Sargsyan
choose?

We Should Be Patient And See How This Story Will End, Ara Abrahamian

WE SHOULD BE PATIENT AND SEE HOW THIS STORY WILL END, ARA ABRAHAMIAN ON OSKANIAN’S CASE

TERT.AM
12.10.12

The office of the Chairman of the Union of Russian Armenians Ara
Abrahamian has not released a statement in defense of Armenia’s
former Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian, Abrahamian stated at a news
conference on Friday.

He did not tried to clarify who has released the statement either,
as like he said, he does not rely on media much, saying mass media
even wrote that Vladimir Putin has kicked him out of Russia.

In the evening of October 2 a false statement has been released on
behalf of the Union calling to start a signature gathering against
the process of depriving Oskanian of parliamentary immunity. Next
morning the union refuted the information, claiming they did not
issue any statement.

“It is a very bad case and does not do good to anyone, it is
just necessary to understand that there is a state and there are
authorities. We should be patient and see how this story will end,”
Abrahamian said, referring to the criminal charges against Vartan
Oskanian.

“We have not issued a statement over the case. No pressure has been
exerted on us by the the authorities, I am not the one to be easily
pressed,” he said, adding that the establishment headed by him defends
President Serzh Sargsyan.

“We are standing by the side of the President. I am a person who
understands statehood. Serzh Sargsyan is our pride, the President of
this state,” President of the World Armenian Congress stated, adding
that he knows our homeland and knows both its bad and good sides.
