“THERE IS A TENDENCY TO RAISE THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE IN TURKISH SOCIETY.”

June 5 2013

According to Richard Kirakosyan, though slow, but undeniable progress
is undeniable, “Aravot.am” asked the director of the Center for
Regional Studies Richard Kirakosyan to express his thoughts on the
recent outbreaks of Istanbul and give parallels between the Armenian
and Turkish civil movements. “For Armenia, the events in Turkey,
including demonstrations and anti-government protest actions, are
important in three ways. First of all, Armenia as a neighboring
country should closely follow any kind of significant event in Turkey.

Second, under the trials of “normalization” of relations, the events
in Turkey are very important aspect of Armenia’s foreign policy. And
third, Turkey is an “exceptional” country for Armenia, which is
conditioned with the fact of the Armenian Genocide. Consequently,
whatever refers to the Turkish government to be unacceptable, also
relates to the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. There are
two parallel and contrast between the Armenian and Turkish civil
movements. In two countries, Armenia and Turkey, there is a wave of
widespread dissatisfaction with the governments. The two governments
are considered to be not enough democratic and authoritative.

Therefore, analyzing the gaps of Turks, the outbreaks of demonstrations
in Istanbul, we see that the efforts of the Prime Minister Erdoghan
towards mitigation of the situation, resulted in a bigger wave of
disorders and expansion of the mentality that Turkish AKP government is
authoritative and arrogant. As for the differences, if there is a wave
of protests and demonstrations in Turkey, they are just missing in
Armenia.” Our activists have expressed their support to the Turkish
activists and even criticized by some parties and politicians,
meanwhile the Turks showed indifference to the actions related to
the park on Mashtots street and other movements. To the question
what can you say about this, R. Kirakosyan replied, – “Perhaps the
Turkish civil society is less interested in the issues of Armenia,
which is natural. Turkey is a big country, and, in that context,
domestic issues are more important for Turkey than the issue of
genocide. But I think that the civil society in Turkey is changing.

For example, this year I was in Istanbul on April 23, and was
impressed with those unusual days. This is the fourth year that
genocide commemoration events are held in different cities of Turkey,
which are organized by representatives of ethnic Turkish civil society
and local Turks. For years, such arrangements seemed impossible on
April 24, it is now possible. By the way, April 24 is not an “Armenian”
issue for Turkey. Everything has outgrown deeper into the struggle for
democracy, human rights, and tolerance in Turkey. At the same time,
it also assumes a struggle in other fields related to the past of
Turkey. April 24 in Turkey has a deeper meaning with regard to the
future. They symbolize the burden of load of rejection in years.

In fact, the struggle is to resist the past of Turkey and to review
the identity of Turkey. On one hand, although small, there are Turkish
civil society movements and intellectuals, who throw down a gauntlet to
the Turkish history and rejection of identities. It is still unclear
as to what direction Turkey will go, but it is essential that there
are such quivers in the bounders of Turkey. I hope that the Turkish
society is going to face the past and there is a tendency to raise
the Armenian genocide, slowly, but the progress is undeniable.

The delay will lead to the destruction of those who distort the past.

MEDICINE PRICES KEEP INCREASING, YET THE LAW-BREAKER COMPANY ONLY RECEIVES A WARNING

Friday, 31 May 2013 16:29

In the pharmacies of Stepanakert some medicine prices have increased
again. According to the consumers medicine prices keep increasing
for the recent months, lately, however, the prices on “Prestance”,
“Prestarium” and some other medicines have whirled upward. Nobody
explains what similar growth is conditioned by, yet the fact is that
each time the citizens have to pay more money, some of them even told
us that they apply to the physicians with the request to prescribe
cheaper medicines.

The NKR State Committee Regulating the Public Services and the Economic
Competition studied the market as well. The results of the studies
recorded no abuse of rights in 6 of the 7 dominating pharmaceutical
entities, yet because of the striking difference between the delivery
and sales price indexes of some medicines recorded in “Pharmacia”
CJSC they started an administrative case within the framework of which
some inspections of the medicine prices for the period between July 1,
2012, to March 1, 2013, were carried out in the company.

The inspections revealed that the growth of a number of medicine
prices was not stipulated by the economic conditions and the rate of
profitableness exceeds the price index by more than 5 percent which is
an abuse of power. The “Pharmacia” CJSC was bound to repair the above
mentioned breach by readjusting some medicine prices and preparing
a 10-to-15-percent fall in prices. The committee’s inspections also
showed that the prices on all the medicines which are dominant in
demand fell by 8-15% and the prices on other medicines by 5-20%,
the state committee regulating the public services and the economic
competition announced during its recently held session.

Taking into account the fact that this was the first breach recorded
in the company and all the circumstances which served a basis for
this breach of law were eliminated the committee decided to issue
a warning and assigned the “Pharmacia” CJSC to exclude any kind of
breaches in their activity in future.

Today, however, our citizens buy medicine at higher prices and still
it is not clear how much the medicine people continually buy will cost
in a few days. And the extra paid money never enters the citizens’
“common pocket”, that is the state budget.

PROTESTERS DEDICATE A STREET TO SLAIN JOURNALIST HRANT DINK IN GEZI PARK

Hrant Dink, Turkey

The demonstrators now freely occupying Istanbul’s Gezi Park for the
last few days opened June 5 a symbolic street dedicated to the murdered
Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink, Hurriyet Daily News reports.

Hundreds of activists had also opened “the peace square” a day earlier
by singing songs and chanting in Turkish and Kurdish. The Hrant Dink
Street connects the Peace Square with the children’s playground.

Activists have brandished banners reading “Buradayız Ahparig!” (We
are here, brother), the slogan chosen for the commemoration of the
6th anniversary of Dink’s murder earlier this year.

Dink was murdered on Jan. 19, 2007, in broad daylight in front
of the Agos building by Ogun Samast, a 17-year-old Turkish
nationalist. His death lead to a long period of mass protests during
which demonstrations famously chanted “We are all Armenians.”

74 People Die In Armenia’s Road Accidents Between January And April

74 PEOPLE DIE IN ARMENIA’S ROAD ACCIDENTS BETWEEN JANUARY AND APRIL

June 06, 2013 | 02:26

YEREVAN. – In line with official statistics, a total of 733 road
accidents were recorded in Armenia from January to April 2013.

The aforesaid indicator is 18 percent higher than the number that
was recorded during the same period last year.

As a result of these road accidents, a total of 74 people died
and 1,045 others sustained injuries between January and April of
this year. The increase makes up 10.4 percent and 19.2 percent,
respectively, as compared to the same period last year.

To note, over 271,000 automobiles were imported to Armenia from 2001
to 2012, and the majority of these vehicles were used cars. But it
is believed that the primary cause of these road accidents is the
violation of traffic rules-especially speeding-, and not the technical
condition of the cars.

SOCIAL TENSION TO BE AVOIDED THROUGH INCREASING PENSIONS, ALLOWANCES AND SALARIES OF PUBLIC SERVANTS IN ARMENIA

YEREVAN, June 5./ARKA/. Armenian authorities can avoid social tension
and will compensate for the imminent inflation by increasing pensions,
allowances and salaries of public servants, believes Hakob Hakobyan,
head of parliamentary commission of social affairs.

Starting from 1 July the minimal salary in Armenia will rise to 45,000
drams. The government also anticipates to up the salaries of public
servants, pensions and allowances from January 2014.

“The State can’t stop inflation due to increase in gas and electricity
cost, however, its function is to implement social programs, prevent
social escalation and poverty upturn,” he told reporters on Wednesday.

au cours de laquelle, il s’est reuni, uniquement, avec ses ” frères
