SARGSYAN: ARMENIA EXPECTS FROM EU BIGGER ASSISTANCE FOR REFORMS

YEREVAN, July 10. /ARKA/. Armenia is determined to continue and give a
new impetus to the large-scale reforms implemented in different areas
and with this regard is anticipating added assistance for their
implementation, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said today as he met
with European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood
Policy Stefan Fule in Yerevan, the Armenian president’s press office
reports.

“The parties spoke with satisfaction about the Armenia-EU relations,
pivotal cooperation carried out in the framework of Eastern
Partnership and the process of negotiations on the Deep and
Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement which constitutes an integral part
of the Association Agreement,” the press release says.

Fule and Sargsyan noted with contentment progress in cooperation on
mobility, underscoring that the Agreements on Visa Facilitation and
Readmission have already been signed and now are undergoing the
process of ratification.

The European Commissioner spoke also about preparations for the
Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius.

Association Agreement between Armenia and the European Union is
expected to be initialed in November in Vilnius at the Eastern
Partnership Summit.

The Association Agreement will replace the present Agreement on
Partnership and Cooperation and will be aimed at deepening relations
between Armenia and the European Union in various areas, including
foreign policy, democracy, economic integration, energy and movement
of people.

On February 29, 2012, the European Union’s Trade Commission consisting
of 27 members decided to start negotiating with Armenia over the Deep
and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement. This agreement will enable
Armenia to diversify its exports and enter the European market on
advantageous conditions. —0—-
