Russian film director praises UK Olympics ceremony

Moscow, 28 July: [Russian Armenian] film director Tigran Keosayan has
been impressed by the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in London.
He said so in an interview with Ekho Moskvy radio station.

“The task of any country hosting the Olympics is to show its
achievements and history during the ceremony. The work of Danny Boyle
is absolutely fantastic. I have not seen that much humour at any
ceremony,” said Keosayan.

He particularly stressed how the director managed to naturally combine
serious issues including England’s Industrial Revolution with such
fetishes as [Secret Service Special] Agent 007 James Bond. “It means
being oneself, laughing at oneself a little bit but being incredibly
proud of one’s country at the same time,” he said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
