The Department of Investigation and Operational Intelligence of the State Revenue Committee of the Republic of Armenia has revealed a particularly large-scale fraud case. The operative-technical department of the department received information that the company operating in Yerevan is fraudulently embezzling citizens’ money. The services offered by the company were also advertised on social networks, including by one of the famous bloggers.
As a result of the operative-investigative measures taken, it was found that the given company provided services in the field of information technologies, created applications, through which it offered a taxi service providing passenger transportation with premium cars. For this purpose, membership cards were issued, the buyers of which, according to the offer, could use several cars attached to their balance for free during the month.
It was found that 14 people who applied to the company paid 8 million 475 thousand drams in person. After making the payments, they were included in the app they created, but they did not actually have the opportunity to use the promised taxi service or receive income.
As a result of the measures, data was also obtained that the company’s employees introduced themselves to citizens under false names. In addition, there were no vehicles on the company’s balance sheet, and there were no other basic assets necessary to organize the activity. Despite this, the latter promised citizens a high income in return for financial investments and an opportunity to use premium class cars for free.
Money in the amount of 500 thousand to 2 million drams was taken from each of the citizens, but the promised services and actions were not fulfilled.
According to the obtained data, particularly large sums of 8 million 475 thousand drams were stolen from the citizens through fraud.
A report on the incident was submitted to the RA Investigative Committee.
The SRC urges citizens, before using similar services or making a financial investment, to study the conditions of the offer in detail, to check the information on the activities of the service provider company and not to rely only on advertising promises spread on social networks.
