The Constitutional Court has combined the applications of seven political forces and will begin hearing the case challenging the results of the 2026 parliamentary elections in an oral procedure on June 26, amid concerns raised by the opposition.
At the working session held on June 21, the High Court accepted proceedings and combined the applications of “Strong Armenia”, “Armenia” blocs, as well as “Prosperous Armenia”, “Wings of Unity”, “Democracy Law and Order”, “Alliance of Defenders of Democracy for the Republic of the Republic” and “New Power” into one common case. The decision made by the Central Electoral Commission on June 14, which summarized the results of the regular elections of June 7, is disputed. The hearing of the case is scheduled for June 26 at 11:00.
According to the results of the elections, only the “Civil Agreement” party, “Strong Armenia” and “Armenia” blocs entered the parliament.
An unprecedented situation has arisen around the “Prosperous Armenia” party, which lacked a few votes to overcome the threshold of 4 percent. As a result of the recount carried out at the request of the party, an increase of 147 votes was recorded, but due to the invalid recognition of the results in some precincts, the political force lost another 222 votes. Scheduling a re-vote in those precincts could be crucial to the party’s entry into parliament.
At the same time, a reporting judge was appointed in the case Edgar Shatiryan, which caused dissatisfaction in the opposition circles. Former head of the staff of the Supreme Court, candidate for deputy of the “Strong Armenia” bloc Edgar Ghazaryan publicly questioned the impartiality of court decisions.
He emphasized that Shatiryan was nominated and elected by the judicial authority of the CC, and previously he was also a reporter in the appeal case of the 2021 parliamentary elections, leaving the CEC’s decision unchanged at that time.
Ghazaryan also pointed out the fact that Shatiryan was presented as the vice-president of the CC on the official website, stressing the lack of a decision on this and the fact that he is mentioned exclusively as a judge in the latest court decision.
