Unprincipled diplomacy

Why did I describe the French president’s statement, which received a lot of attention yesterday, as meanness? For many, it may sound very harsh and strict. Let me explain why I consider it mean.

It is a disgrace, first of all, because whoever is who, the French president simply does not have any moral right to describe Armenia as a “Russian satellite”, at least for the simple reason that France itself, by and large, got a place at the front table in the geopolitical sense thanks to the Russian-Soviet initiative.

Apart from that, it is in France that they know best, or should know, the complex, difficult, difficult history and process of Armenia’s post-Soviet independence, the effort to build an independent state at a heavy price, the realities of the Caucasus, regional geopolitics. Knowing all that, defining Armenia as a “Russian satellite” means lying and disdain, and that is always meanness.

Apart from that, Macron already personally knows very well that Armenia has not gained sovereignty, but has lost thousands of lives, Artsakh, cultural heritage, rights, and all that is still an ongoing process. Under these circumstances, defining the situation of Armenia with the logic of “liberation” and “sovereignty” is, I repeat, meanness.

And the biggest disgrace is that Macron says all that in order to reach an agreement with Russia in the end, and to reach an agreement at the price of Armenia.
