Armenia’s Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan has commented on Russia’s decision to ban the sale of certain batches of mineral water produced by the “Jermuk Group” company, saying he does not see any political context in the move. He made the remarks during a press briefing with journalists on the sidelines of a parade dedicated to International Workers’ Day.

“We must ensure the quality standards of goods exported from our country. I personally believe that ‘Jermuk’ is of high quality and meets all standards, and I have no doubt that the issue will be resolved,” the minister said.

On 28 April, it became known that Russia had banned the sale of certain batches of Armenian “Jermuk” mineral water in both online and offline stores. The decision to suspend sales was based on a letter from Russia’s consumer watchdog, Rospotrebnadzor, which cited the need to take urgent measures to prevent a possible threat to the life and health of Russian citizens. The stated reason for the suspension was a violation of mandatory requirements. The ban applies to water produced between 17 February 2026 and March 2026.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
