YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 5, ARMENPRESS. At the instruction of Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan, the Defense Ministry’s representatives led by Colonel Alexander Avetisyan, the head of the Health, Social Protection and Veterans Affairs department visited the family of Gurgen Alaverdyan, the Armenian officer who appeared in Azerbaijani captivity in circumstances yet to be determined.

Colonel Avetisyan got acquainted with the family’s socio-economic, health condition and said he will do everything within his powers to solve the issues.

The family of the officer was informed that the Armenian authorities are working to determine the circumstances which led to Alaverdyan appearing in Azeri territory as well as to ensure the procedures stemming from his status, the defense ministry said in a news release.

Caparrós announces Armenia starting lineup for North Macedonia UEFA Nations League qualifier

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 5, ARMENPRESS.  The Armenian National Football Team has announced its starting lineup for the UEFA Nations League qualifier against North Macedonia.

Armenia manager Joaquín Caparrós listed the starters as: 1. Yurchenko (GK), 21. Grigoryan, 2. Calisir, 3. Haroyan, 19. Hambardzumyan, 6. Wbeymar, 5. Grigoryan, 7. Bayramyan, 10. Koryan, 13. Hovhannisyan, 20. Karapetyan.

The match is due September 5, 17:00 at the National Arena Todor Proeski in Skopje.

Armenia and Russia general staff chiefs discuss bilateral military cooperation in Moscow meeting

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 5, ARMENPRESS. The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia Lt. General Onik Gasparyan is leading a delegation to Moscow, Russia to participate in the closing ceremony of the 2020 International Army Games, the Armenian Defense Ministry spokesperson Shushan Stepanyan said on social media.

During the visit Lt. General Gasparyan had a meeting with his Russian counterpart, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia General Valery Gerasimov.

“Bilateral military cooperation issues were discussed,” Stepanyan said.

Azerbaijan violates Artsakh ceasefire 300 times in past week

Azerbaijan violated the ceasefire at the line of contact around 300 times from August 30 to September 5, firing more than 3000 shots from various caliber firearms at Artsakhi troops, the Defense Army of Artsakh said in a news release, adding that they continue maintaining “full control” at the frontline and carry on with their mission.

Turkish press: Akdamar Church to hold mass with COVID-19 measures

Akdamar Church in Turkey’s eastern province of Van will host the 8th special mass Sunday amid precautionary measures due to COVID-119.

The mass, which gathers thousands of local and international tourists in Van, will be held with a limited number of visitors this year as part of virus measures, Van Governor Mehmet Emin Bilmez told Anadolu Agency.

The mass will be aired live. A team of 25 people will come from Istanbul to perform the ritual for which all necessary measures are in place, Bilmez added. Other visitors will not be allowed to the island during the mass, he underlined.

The 1,100-year-old Akdamar Church, a medieval Armenian place of worship in Turkey’s eastern Van province, was built between 915-921 A.D. by architect Bishop Manuel under the direction of King Gagik I Artsruni.

The church, which has a special place in East-West Christian art, carries the most important adornments and the most comprehensive wall reliefs of its time and was accepted on the UNESCO Tentative List of World Heritage on April 13, 2015.

Turkey's Ministry for Culture and Tourism has carried out extensive renovation and restoration work to bring the medieval church back to its former glory.

On Sept. 19, 2010, the Akdamar Church hosted its first service after a 95-year break. The church opened its service every year for one day and the last service was conducted in 2018, which saw a gathering of thousands of local and international tourists in Van.

Parliament passes bill on declaring quarantine after end of state of emergency at 1st hearing

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 4, ARMENPRESS. The legislative package, submitted by the Armenian government, which proposes not to extend the current coronavirus-related state of emergency and declare quarantine instead, has been adopted by the parliament at the first hearing.

The bill was passed with 80 votes in favor and 28 votes against.

Before the voting the opposition Bright Armenia and Prosperous Armenia factions announced that they will vote against the package of bills.

According to the bill, quarantine may be declared in case of danger of spread of infectious diseases to Armenia’s territory, outbreaks, epidemic, etc.

The state of emergency differs from the new regime with the restriction volumes of rights and intensity of the applying set of tools.

Armenian President to participate in Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 4, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian will take part in the Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit (GMIS) on September 5, the Presidential Office told Armenpress.

This year the Summit will be held virtually.

The GMIS 2020 is organized under the co-chairmanship of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

The Armenian President will deliver remarks at the discussion dedicated to the theme “Restoring Prosperity in a Post-Pandemic World”.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres, heads of state and government, as well as representatives of major companies are among the speakers.

The Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit (GMIS) was established in 2015 as an industry association to build bridges between manufacturers, governments & NGOs, technologists, and investors in harnessing the Fourth Industrial Revolution’s transformation of manufacturing to the regeneration of the global economy. Armenia’s PM, Emergency Situations Minister offer congratulations on ministry’s Personnel Day

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 4, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and Minister of Emergency Situations Felix Tsolakyan addressed congratulatory messages on the occasion of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Personnel Day.

In a Facebook post the Armenian PM said the ministry’s personnel are always in the center of emergency incidents and situations due to their profession.

“Due to your profession you with your dedicated work are managing such risks which could have led our country and people to serious disasters. I want to thank you all for your dedicated work, wishing you good service and happiness”, the PM said.

In his congratulatory message Minister Tsolakyan said rescuer is a title involving strength and kindness, the love and caring attitude of a rescuer towards the people and the state.

“Rescuer is a hero, and that’s it… Dear compatriots, congratulating all of us on the ministry’s personnel day, I want to remind that each employee of the ministry of emergency situations is a rescuer regardless of the position he/she holds”, the minister said.

Armenia, Russia intensify ties in digitization, cyber-security and communication fields

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 4, ARMENPRESS. First deputy minister of high technological industry of Armenia Gor Melikyan on September 2 met with Russian deputy minister of digital development, communications and mass media Alexey Volin in Yerevan, the Armenian ministry told Armenpress.

Issues relating to the Armenian-Russian cooperation in digitization, cyber-security, telecommunication and communication spheres were discussed during the meeting.

The sides expressed readiness to deepen the future cooperation in the aforementioned directions, as well as exchanged views on the possible partnership at the bilateral and multilateral format within the frames of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

An agreement was reached to expand the ties between the two ministries and the representatives of the respective fields through regular meetings, as well as joint participation to forums and events.

At the end of the meeting the ministry officials reached a number of agreements which will soon be discussed in a working format.

Gyumri invites to celebrate city’s day in online platform

GYUMRI, SEPTEMBER 4, ARMENPRESS. The residents of Gyumri, the second largest city of Armenia, will celebrate the city’s day on September 5 under the title “My Love Gyumri”.

This year this day will be celebrated online due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

An online concert will be held. The museums in the city will organize online excursions during the whole day.

On the same day the opening ceremony of the Yuri Vardanyan Weightlifting Sports School will take place.

Social apartments will be handed to families affected from heavy hails this year.
