Foreign Ministers of Armenia, Madagascar discuss bilateral cooperation

On October 8, Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian met Minister of Foreign Affairs of Madagascar Béatrice Atallah, who arrived in Armenia to participate at the 31st session of the Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF).

Welcoming the guest, Minister Nalbandian mentioned that OIF Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs is not only a good reason to discuss pending issues on Organization’s agenda, that of the member-states and ways to address them, preparatory works of the OIF Summit to be held in Antananarivo next year, but also an opportunity to touch upon issues of the development of bilateral cooperation.

Expressing gratitude for the organization of OIF Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs and warm reception, Minister Atallah attached importance to the holding of the Yerevan Ministerial meeting, stressing that in Yerevan a handover of the chairmanship in the OIF Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs to Madagascar will take place.

During the meeting, thoughts were exchanged over expansion of cooperation between Armenia and Madagascar, establishment of the legal framework, holding of consultations between the MFAs, tightening of cooperation within international institutions, establishment of cooperation in the trade and economic fields. In this regard, importance was placed to the documents to-be-signed in coming days between two states.

Minister Atallah, expressing gratitude for the fact that a number of experts from Madagascar got their education in Armenia, expressed interest in possible cooperation with Armenia in the field of education.

The Ministers commended the friendly relations between Yerevan and Antananarivo established back in 1982, and agreed to revitalize the cooperation between the two capitals.

The Foreign Minister of Madagascar presented the priorities of its forthcoming chairmanship in the International Organization of La Francophonie.
