President of the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) Republic Bako Sahakyan has
congratulated teachers on their professional holiday.

His address, published on the official website of the Nagorno-Karabakh
leader, is presented below:

“Dear teachers,

“On behalf of the Artsakh Republic authorities and myself, I
personally cordially congratulate you on your professional holiday.

“You educate and bring up the future citizens of our republic, and
along with imparting knowledge give them the first lessons of life
that to a great extent determine the future of our Motherland and
people. Your painstaking work has a worthy contribution to building
the independent statehood of Artsakh, its development and
strengthening.

“We are well aware of your difficult, responsible and very thankful
work. Everyone of us – whenever and wherever meets our teachers –
always approaches them with deep respect, eager to be somehow useful,
convey the warmth and care that we gained years ago. It is a
centuries-old attitude that our people have always had towards the
profession of a teacher.

“Having an educated and progressive generation is a call of the times
and one of our pivotal tasks we have to fulfill. For this very reason
the state keeps the sphere of education and science in the spotlight
of constant attention.”

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
