TURKEY STRUGGLES TO CURB ACCESS TO OTTOMAN ARCHIVES BECAUSE OF THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE
YEREVAN, September 12. /ARKA/. Turkey is making every effort to prevent
opening up of the Ottoman Empire archives due to the problem of the
genocide against Armenians, founder of WikiLeaks Julian Assange said.
“Censorship started rising in Turkey as many welcomed it for the
Kurdish issues and the genocide of Armenians. Today censorship has
spread to all fields”, Assange said at an Internet forum held in
Istanbul on September 5.
Assange condemned the Internet management tools used in today’s
Turkey. According to him, the Turkish censorship has its roots in
the efforts against two problems – the Kurds and the Armenian genocide.
Earlier, the Turkish activist said access to some 45,000 and Youtube
is blocked for users in Turkey. In response, the Turkish authorities
made an attempt to say it is done to ensure children stay safe online.
