PanARMENIAN.Net – On March 4, India’s Kolkata hosted an event
in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Sumgait pogroms, with
Armenian ambassador Ara Hakobyan, senior members of Holy Nazareth
Church board and Armenian community representatives present.

A service to honor the memory of those killed was held in Holy Trinity
Armenian Church, with Ambassador Hakobyan delivering a speech. The
envoy particularly reflected on Artsakh movement, Azeri-led pogroms
targeting the Armenian population in Sumgait, Kirovabad, Baku and
other cities. He slammed the continuation of Azerbaijan’s anti-Armenian
policy, namely release and glorification of axe-killer Ramil Safarov.

The event further featured performance of patriotic songs and screening
of a documentary on Sumgait pogroms.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
