HAYKAKAN ZHAMANAK: 180,000 EMIGRANTS FROM ARMENIA IN FOUR YEARS

According to an official report by the Migration Service, Ministry
of Territorial Administration of Armenia, a total of 2,234,597 people
left Armenia and 2,191,833 returned to the country last year.

Thus, 42,764 more people left Armenia than arrived in the country
last year. The actual number of emigrants reached 43,800 in 2011 –
a small decrease as compared with 2010. However, thousands of Syrian
Armenians arrived in the country last year.

According to the preliminary data, 53,000 to 55,000 people emigrated
from Armenia last year. Even the government admits that around 180,000
people have emigrated from Armenia in recent four years – about 6%
of Armenia’s population.
