Armenian president visits defensive positions

22:30 – 31.12.12

Armenian President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces
Serzh Sargsyan visited on Monday the defensive positions on the
occasion of the New Year and Christmas.

The Armenian leader was accompanied by Catholicos of All Armenians
Garegin II and Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan. President Serzh
Sargsyan talked to the soldiers about their problems.

The Armenian president congratulated the servicemen on the New Year
and thanked them for self-sacrificing service. `The Armenian warrior
is a status. He is not necessary supposed to be in the trenches or
carry a tommy gun. It is important that a person feel himsef as a
soldier of the Homeland. I think there is not a higher rank or greater
happiness than being a soldier of your Homeland. I have seem much
though I am not so old – my people’s hardship, loss of many of my
friends, destruction of settlements. I have seen everything. Loyalty
and treachery of friends. But, truly, there is nothing greater than
serving the Homeland. I want you, dear warriers, to live your life
being well aware of this. Our people has been living for a very long
time in this land. We have had ups and downs on this way. But we are
and, I am sure, will always be. We exist because most of our leaders,
clergymen and ordinary people considered themselves soldiers. Among
our neighbors were people that were much greater than we both in
number and might. We can recall at least a score of peoples that
passed into history because they were not soldiers of their nation and
their Homeland. We will exist forever because many of us consider
themselves soldiers of our Homeland,’ President Serzh Sargsyan said.

The Armenian leader awarded presents to a number of distinguished soldiers.

President Serzh Sargsyan also met with residents of the village of
Areni, talked to them and congratulated them on the coming holidays.
