Armenia and Germany to develop cooperation on decentralized level

On November 16 Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Territorial
Administration Armen Gevorgyan met with the Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Germany to Armenia Rainer Morel.

Minister Gevorgyan praised the current level of cooperation between
Armenia and Germany. He expressed particular satisfaction with the
programs that are being implemented in Armenia’s regions with the
assistance of Germany, noting that a prevailing long-term and
effective cooperation has been developed with the Kreditanstalt für
Wiederaufbau (KfW) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale
Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in the fields of drinking water provision, solid
waste recycling, development of community databases, the development
of local democratic institutions.

The deputy prime minister stressed the work carried out by KfW, in the
field of researching the problems of water supply in the country and
presentations of institutional proposals, and also noted the
contribution of GIZ for efforts on administrative-territorial reforms
of the communities.

When talking about the outcome of the Armenian-German
Intergovernmental Commission on Financial and Technical Cooperation
meeting, Gevorgyan welcomed the fact that in the framework of the
planned bilateral cooperation, many programs focus on the development
of infrastructure in the regions, emphasizing the importance of the
readiness of the German side to finance reconstruction of the Capse
reservoir. The deputy prime minister said that Armenia and Germany can
also successfully cooperate in the format of decentralized relations,
the press service of the Ministry of Territorial Administration
informed Armenian News – NEWS.am.

The Ambassador said that the Armenian-German relations are effectively
developing, and promised to do everything possible for greater
development of bilateral cooperation. Morel expressed satisfaction
with the programs implemented in Armenia, stressing that Armenia is
one of the countries where the programs of German government
assistance are implemented effectively and most successfully.
