Sofia. “There are around 15,000 Armenians in Sofia, who need their
own temple, and the municipality helps them for this,” Sofia Mayor
Yordanka Fandakova said while inspecting the construction of the new
Armenian Church in Sofia, FOCUS News Agency reporter informs.

The construction of the Armenian apostolic church started in 2006. So
far Sofia Municipality has allocated some BGN 160,000 for the project.

“We joined the project few years ago with a financial aid of BGN
100,000 from the privatisation fund, while last year we provided
some BGN 60,000 more. This is a very important engagement of the
municipality, since Sofia is a symbol of the religious and ethnic
tolerance,” Fandakova remarked.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
