STATEMENT OF NKR’S FOREIGN MINISTRY ON KHOJALU EVENTS CIRCULATED IN UN

At the request of RA Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador
Karen Nazaryan addressed to the secretary general of the UN, the
statement of NKR’s foreign ministry on the events taken place in
Khojalu in 1992 was circulated as an official document of the General
Assembly and the Security Council.

As informed by the foreign ministry, Ambassador Nazaryan has stated
that Azerbaijan has made false statements on the mentioned events
for numerous times, and reminds that the international community
including the European Court of Human Rights and numerous international
human rights organizations have urged to release those Azerbaijani
journalists and human rights defenders who put to doubt the speculation
of Azerbaijan on the events in Khojalu.

The details of the military actions of that time period are presented
in the statement of NKR foreign ministry circulated in the UN and
it is stated that “… In the context of the Karabakh conflict the
topic of Khojalu still continues to remain one of the corner stones
of Azerbaijan’s internal and external information, more precisely,
misinformation policy. Whereas, the expressions and evaluations made
over the events in Khojalu by some Azerbaijani high-rank officials,
human rights defenders, journalists and the residents of Khojalu
themselves completely disprove Baku’s false speculations.”

It is also mentioned in the statement that “all the facts undoubtedly
prove that Azerbaijan is to blame for the deaths of peaceful residents
of Khojalu, which perpetrated a monstrous crime towards the people
because of political intrigues and for the struggle for authority…

Regularly raffling the “Khojalu” card, official Baku is trying to
deviate the attention of the international community from the organized
massacres of Armenians in Sumgait, Baku, Kirovabad, Khanlar and in
other settlements of Azerbaijan /in the whole territory of which in
fact extermination of Armenians was taking place openly/, as well
as in border settlements of NKR, particularly, in Marahga village
/where the intruded subdivisions of Azerbaijan’s regular army brutally
exercised violence against about 100 peaceful resident in 1992/”.

Earlier, last week during the discussions of the Security Council
held in New York the Armenian ambassador to the UN had stated that
Armenians suffered slaughter and horrible violence in Azerbaijan only
because of their nationality and had said the manipulation on events
in Khojalu by Azerbaijan are absurd.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
