La Crescenta, CA.- An enchanting afternoon of literary readings,
musical entertainments and songs ” An Afternoon Dedicated to Armenian
Culture Day ” will take place at Armenian Apostolic Church of
Crescenta Valley, located at Western Prelacy’s ” Dikran and Zarouhi
Der Ghazarian ” Hall, at 6252 Honolulu Ave., in La Crescenta,
California on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at 1 pm, following the church
service.
Participating in the program are members of Armenian Writers
Association of California. Association’s President Mr. Grish Davtian
will emphasize on Armenian culture and poets Gevorg Christinian,
Garush Haryantz, Armen Poghosian and free lance writer Janibek
Janibekian will offer moving readings of their literary work.
Entertainer and flutist Salpy and harpist Sossy from Heavenly Chants
Flute and Harp Duo will perform to the enjoyment of their audience and
singer Nishan Jaghatsbanian will perform a number of popular Armenian
songs.
Through the centuries Armenian culture has developed in a
contemporary, unusual and thriving way. Many aspects of Armenian
culture are based on the music, literature, and geographical placement
of the people. The culture of Armenia is distinctly different and yet
strikingly similar to the neighboring nations of Georgia, Russia, and
Iran as well as Mediterranean countries like Italy, and Greece.
Armenian culture has heavy influences of both its Eastern neighbors,
along with an inherent influence from Europe in the West.
Culture in Armenia has many facets, the most important are music,
dance, art, literature, cuisine, lace making, cinema, sports,
woodcraft and smithies.
Armenia’s culture has seen a lot of exchange and change through the
centuries yet its core values depending upon the existence of large
joint families. Armenian culture is hence a perfect amalgamation of
the best achievements of the past with the high hopes of future.
His Holiness Garegin Hovsepian, the Catholicos of the Holy See of
Cilicia of the Armenian Apostolic Church from 1943-1952, in reference
to Holy Translator Day, had declared the month of October as Armenian
cultural month and since then it is celebrated in the Armenian world
with great enthusiasm.
The public at large is invited to be present at this soul searching
presentation and public service program. The event is sponsored by Mr.
and Mrs. Vahe and Aida Jooharian.
The event which is organized by Crescenta Valley Armenian Apostolic
Church ( CV Church ) and CV Church Educational Committee is free and
open to the public. There will be a reception before the start of the
program at the completion of the Divine Liturgy.
