Armenian Fest brings food, culture to life
e-mail print July 24, 2011 6:24 p.m.
The celebration has been a Milwaukee tradition since the 1930s. Each
summer Armenian Fest brings its heritage and its fun to those who want
to learn about the culture – and of course, the food – of this
community.
Armenian Fest returns on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the grounds
of St. John the Baptist Armenian Orthodox church, 7825 W. Layton Ave.
Food is a natural focus for this family-centered fest. This year the
menu includes chicken and beef kebabs and more unusual fare: lahmajoun
(served on tortilla dough) and meat sarma-stuffed grape leaves.
A cultural booth will offer books and other materials about Armenian
history and traditions. Live contemporary Armenian music comes
courtesy of the band Karoon.
Armenian Fest admission and parking are free.
