While laying a water pipe in the Kokhb community, Tavush region,
in the framework of a project financed by the Millennium Challenge
Corporation, the constructors found some ancient tombs.

The work was stopped. A senior researcher from the National Academy
of Science Simon Hamayakyan was sent to the scene and found 10 tombs
dating back to III BC. 8 of them were destroyed. Some contained
ceramics, stone objects and a bronze sword.

The Culture Ministry of Armenia has decided to proclaim the place as
a protected zone and to send an expedition to the scene.

The Ministry has allowed the executor of the construction project,
the Millennium Challenge Account Armenia, to continue laying the
pipe. The tombs will be left in the earth until the expedition comes.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
