“The Subcommittee was not informed about the details of peace talks,
that’s why it couldn’t positively contribute to this process”

Strasbourg. Fuad Gulubeyli – APA. “The work of Subcommittee on Nagorno
Karabakh without Armenian delegation’s participation is impossible.

There were no consultations with the Armenian side while resuming
the committee’s activity and we don’t understand what the Assembly
expects from this committee?”, said Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan
during his speech at the PACE’s plenary meeting, APA’s European
bureau reports.

Answering the questions of the parliamentarians, Sargsyan touched the
activity of PACE’s Subcommittee on Nagorno Karabakh: “We consider
that the PACE plays an important role for development of peace and
stability in our region. That’s why we must take steps in order not
to expose this process to a risk. There is such opinion as if this
Subcommittee stopped its activity after Russell Johnston’s death. That
is not so. The Subcommittee, certainly, was not informed about the
details of peace talks. This committee knew nothing about the history
of the conflict. It simply joined the next phase of the solution
process. That’s why it couldn’t positively contribute to the process.

The Assembly is not engaged in the settlement of this conflict and this
work was recommended to the OSCE. That’s why this committee’s work can
not be productive and I support our delegation to PACE in this issue. ”

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
