RA PARLIAMENT SPEAKER MET WITH HIS EGYPTIAN COUNTERPART IN CAIRO

Jan. 16, 2010 official delegation headed by the RA Parliament Speaker
Hovik Abrahamyan arrived in Egypt. Armenian delegates had a meeting
with Egyptian MPs in an enlarged format.

Egyptian parliament speaker Ahmed Fathi Surur heartily welcomed the
delegation expressing hope that in the course of visit the sides will
further efforts in strengthening the historically warm and friendly
relations, emphasizing the pivotal role of Armenian Community in
this regard.

Hovik Abrahamyan outlined the parliamentary cooperation between the
friendly countries, restating the adherence of Armenian side to the
provisions of Egyptian-Armenian inter-parliamentary agreement (1997).

He also presented the primary objectives of Armenian foreign policy –
steps towards establishment of peace and stability in South Caucasus
as well as Armenia-Turkey rapprochement without preconditions.

RA NA Speaker invited his Egyptian counterpart to pay a return visit
to Armenia.

Jan. 16, RA Embassy to Egypt organized a formal reception, attended
by numerous Egyptian officials, high ranking diplomats, Ambassadors
accredited in Cairo, journalists, Armenian community representatives
as well as Ahmed Fathi Surur.

Jan. 18, Hovik Abrahamyan will hold a meeting with Egypt Parliament
speaker Ahmed Fathi Surur. Thereupon Armenian delegation returns
to Yerevan.
