At a general meeting of Turkey’s governing Justice and Development
(AKP) party held yesterday in Istanbul, Turkish Prime Minister Recep
Tayyip Erdogan said that there are 70,000 citizens from the Republic
of Armenia in Turkey and an additional 100,000 Turkish citizens of
Armenian ancestry.

"This is the reality of the relations between Armenia and Turkey,"
he said.

Erdogan’s statement was made as if in response to the statement
Nationalist Movement Party leader Devlet Bahceli made yesterday.

Bahceli, referring to the establishment process of Armenia-Turkey and
Turkey-Greece relations initiated recently during a parliamentary
session, had stated that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan "is
cooperating with Armenians and Greeks, to Turkey’s detriment."

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Member of RA Public Council on Defense and National
Security, physicist and Director of Institute of Fundamental Sciences
Simon Kamsarakan has published his open letter addressed to Foreign
Minister Edward Nalbandyan. In his letter, Kamsarakan informs Armenian
FM that he has already requested Prosecutor General to institute
a criminal case against him for violating constitutional order and
abusing authority to the detriment of the Armenia’s national security
and defense.

Kamsarakan finds that Armenian FM is obliged to provide information
on who initialed RA-Turkish Protocols and where, who elaborated
the so-called press release on behalf of Armenian, Turkish and Swiss
Foreign Ministries and why parties’ signatures are missing. Kamsarakan
is also interested to know whether the press releases on initialed
protocols were available to President on August 30, and why public
has no access to the Protocols signed. Besides, activists wonders who
undersigned the shorthand reports, how long they are going to be kept
confidential etc.

In his letter, Kamsarakan also says that in case the questions above
remain unanswered, he’ll submit relevant conclusions to RA Prosecutor
General as an argument proving his accusations.

Cafesjian’s ‘Open Doors’ Closed Earlier Than Announced

CAFESJIAN’S ‘OPEN DOORS’ CLOSED EARLIER THAN ANNOUNCED

The Cafesjian Center for the Arts declared November 8 as an exclusive
‘Open Doors’ day for the public, where art-loving Yerevan citizens
could become familiar with the centre’s various contemporary art
collections, without having to pay an admission fee.

In all the glossy pamphlets published on the occasion of the exhibition
opening, Open Doors day was announced on November 8 from 10 am to 10
pm. In fact, the Cafesjian Center for the Arts closed the doors to its
exhibit halls a few hours earlier. Tert.am correspondents succeeded
in gathering information from neither the security guards nor the
young women working behind the first floor reception desk. All of them
stated that they’re not the ones in charge and could say nothing. The
only excuse was that the escalators’ hours of operation were mentioned
in the booklet. In fact, the numerous escalators within the Cascade
complex have always been in operation till 11 pm, irregardless of
the opening of the Cafesjian Center for the Arts.

While those arriving apparently "late" were angrily waiting before
the entrance, security guards were letting groups of what one could
assume to be VIP guests in.

Earlier, enthusiastic museum-goers were made to wait in long queues,
since, after all, the opening of this institution of contemporary art
was a long-awaited event, and there was a rush to become acquainted
with Gerard Cafesjian’s collection while it was still free of charge.

The others, and those who appeared before the doors of the centre
after 7:30 pm on the ‘Open Doors’ day, will have to pay an admission
fee of 1,000 AMD to view all but the first two exhibit halls at the
Cafesjian Center for the Arts.

‘NOT ARMENIA THAT MUST GO TO GLOBAL COMPANIES, BUT MAJOR COMPANIES MUST COME TO ARMENIA’: TIGRAN SARGSYAN SPEAKS AT ARMTECH GALA

Tert

Armenia

ArmTech Congress ’09, the third Global Armenian High Tech Industry &
Business Conference, was held under the patronage of the Prime Minister
of the Republic of Armenia on November 5-8, 2009, in California’s
Silicon Valley.

Distinguished keynote speakers included Honorable Joe Simitian,
California State Senator (U.S.); Areg Galstyan, Deputy Minister of
Energy and Natural Resources (Republic of Armenia); Pegor Papazian,
CEO, National Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia; Daniel M.

Mahoney, President and CEO, Renesas Technology America, Inc. (U.S.);
and Gregory K. Hinckley, President of Mentor Graphics, Inc.(U.S.).

Sargsyan, speaking at the conference’s evening gala at Fairmont Hotel
San Jose, said that during his stay in Silicon Valley, it became
clear it is necessary to make changes to RA government projects in
the area of internet technology. "They grew outdated over the time we
were trying to implement them," the prime minister stated. It turns
out that we have to refresh, an opportunity which ArmTech provides.

Secondly, during our meetings with a major company an idea was proposed
that, firstly, made me astonished, that it’s not Armenia that must
go to global companies, but rather, major companies must come to
Armenia. The world is becoming very small, and global companies are
competing there. There are no longer any free places."

The prime minister emphasized the third conclusion: "The competition
among the world’s global companies is not in finding a place in the
present market, since there is no more free space. Moreover, all the
spaces in the future market too are occupied, which makes the Blue
Ocean Strategy very timely, since all those territories where we try
to position ourselves are occupied today and tomorrow. We are late:
this means we must find our ocean, our space, where we will have
our relative advantage." The prime minister considered the question
"What is Armenia’s place in the future world?" to be pivotal. "No
global company thinks [about this], other than us; they think about
their own business. And ArmTech must provide assistance in finding
the answer to the question."

In the context of the meetings and discussions held recently, Sargsyan
also referred to the Armenian world: "The Armenian world is a reality.

The rapidly changing and diminishing world showed that. It is not
the formation of the Armenian world that should interest us, since
it exists, but its future: what changes we must undergo, how we must
change the Armenian world’s traditional structures, our country."

As announced by the Republic of Armenia government, the prime minister
referred to the Armenian Genocide, Armenia-Diaspora cooperation,
and major issues related to Armenian-Turkish relations, as well
as presenting Armenia’s position and the Armenian’s president’s
initiatives directed toward the establishment of the relations.

Since diplomatic relations have not yet been established between
Armenia and Turkey, one cannot speak of official relations in the area
of culture, Republic of Armenia Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan
stated. According to the minister, all the possible joint projects
contain a public aspect.

Earlier, Turkish media reported on the possible meeting of Armenian
and Turkish historians and archaeologists in Kars. According to this
news, the scientists were going to discuss issues related to the
reconstruction of one of Armenia’s ancient capitals, Ani.

"This information might correspond to reality. Armenian archaeologists
may participate in such projects," said the minister, answering
Tert.am’s question on the reliability of the information.

Poghosyan also stated that over the course of two years (2008-2009),
16-17 discussions related to cultural projects took place between
Armenia and Turkey.
