THE WORLD MEDIA ON ARMENIAN-TURKISH BILATERAL DIPLOMATIC TIES

In bilateral talks with Swiss participation Armenia and Turkey have
agreed to hold internal consultations on signing diplomatic and
bilateral ties. The development of political, economic and cultural
cooperation on the world media:

Russia Today, Turkey and Armenia have agreed to establish diplomatic
relations in order to reopen border crossings that have been closed
since 1993.

The New-York Times Turkey and Armenia, whose century of hostilities
constitutes is one of the world’s most enduring and acrimonious
international rivalries, have agreed to establish diplomatic relations,
the two countries announced. In a breakthrough that came after a year
of tiny steps across a still-sealed border and furtive bilateral
talks in Switzerland, the foreign ministries of the two countries
said that they would begin talks aimed at producing a formal agreement.

ITAR-TASS Armenia and Turkey will establish diplomatic ties and set
diplomatic missions in less than a month and a half.

BBC Ankara and Yerevan are at their convergence. According to the
joint statement of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkey and
Armenia, with Swiss participation, the political consultations will
last six weeks.

US Dept of State The United States warmly welcomes the joint statement
made by Turkey and Armenia, with Swiss participation, outlining further
steps in the normalization of their bilateral relations. It has long
been and remains the position of the United States that normalization
should take place without preconditions and within a reasonable
timeframe. We urge Armenia and Turkey to proceed expeditiously,
according to the agreed framework as described in statement. We
remain ready to work closely with both governments in support of
normalization, that will contribute to peace, security and stability
throughout the region.
