85% OF CHILDREN SHELTERED IN "CHILDREN RECEPTION AND ORIENTATION CENTER" RETURN TO THEIR FAMILIES

YEREVAN, AUGUST 20, ARMENPRESS: About 96 children have been sheltered
in the "Children Reception and Orientation Center" of the Fund
for Armenian Relief (FAR) during the seven months of the running
year. Director of the center Ramona Ktakyan told Armenpress that these
children have been left into oblivion for some reasons, are abandoned
by their parents, have been subjected to violations in their families.

According to the statute of the center, children from 3-18 years
old may be accepted in the center with 30-day period but there are
exceptions as well. About 85% of children usually return back to their
families. Ktakyan said that it demands special work not only with
children but with the families as well. The rest of the children, in
case they do not have families or someone who may take care of them,
are placed in children’s houses and those who have behavior issues
are sent to centers intended for them: there are 2 such centers in
the country.

"We receive calls via our hot line from neighbors, relatives, police
officers, common people who are concerned with the fate of homeless
children," Ktakyan said, noting with delight that recently they have
noticed change of attitude of the people toward children who appeared
in the difficult situation: they are not indifferent.

The mission of the center is to protect beggaring, unplaced,
unsheltered children left without care and assist them. The center
is closely cooperating with departments of protection of children
rights of the governors’ offices.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
