ARMENIAN LAW-ENFORCERS REPORT 89.4% SURGE IN ECONOMIC CRIMES IN JAN.-JUNE

YEREVAN, August 5. /ARKA/. Economic crimes in Armenia nearly doubled in
the first six months of 2009, rising 89.4% to 358 cases, the National
Statistical Service (NSS) told ARKA, citing the numbers made available
by Armenian Police.

According to the National Statistical Service, 135 crimes related to
forgery , storing and sale of banknotes and securities.

The number of forgeries in the first half of 2009 rose 2.6 times
from a year before, the NSS said. The other 223 cases were different
economic offences whose number rose 62.5% year-on-year.
