DRUG ADDICTION IN ARMENIA GETTING YOUNGER

Officially recorded addiction figure in Armenia is not so critical
compared with the rest of the world, Petros Semerjyan, the director of
narcological center of Armenia told at news conference. According to
the official source 490 people applied to get cured in 2008; while
this figure in 2001 was 7, in 2002 – 12; 2003 and 2004 – 40; 2005 –
150; 2006 – 170 and in 2007 – 205.

Regarding the addiction tendencies, the doctor said that it is
getting younger and increasing in its number. "If we compare the
world and our region then we should note that Armenia is in better
condition. Although 1141 drug addicted are recorded in the state,"
he said.

According to the doctor 4 thousand drug addicted are recorded in
Tbilisi, 28 thousand in Baku. The average age of people addicted
to drugs is 25-45. It is said that people after 45 just don’t live,
they die.
