/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Barrack Obama’s statement on Genocide Commemoration
Day, has had both positive and negative consequences, Yerevan Genocide
Museum Director, a historian Hayk Demoyan told a news conference. "As
Armenian Genocide Museum Director and an expert in this sphere,
I see serious danger in using the genocide word as it gives cause
for manipulations," Armenian historian noted, adding that this is a
global problem which is not related to Armenian Genocide only.

According to Hayk Demoyan, it would be much more preferable for Barack
Obama to refrain from his pledge to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

"Positive effect produced by Obama’s statement was that discussions
around his statement increased Armenian Genocide awareness throughout
the world," Genocide Museum Director noted.

On Apr. 24, in his annual address to American Community, US President
Barack Obama used the term Meds Yeghern instead of long-expected
Genocide word "Nothing can bring back those who were lost in the
Meds Yeghern. But the contributions that Armenians have made over the
last ninety-four years stand as a testament to the talent, dynamism,
and resilience of the Armenian people, and as the ultimate rebuke to
those who tried to destroy them," Obama said in his statement.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
