TEHRAN (FNA)- Deputy Head of Iran-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship
Group George Vartan viewed Tehran and Yerevan as "strategic partners".

"Armenia showed after the collapse of Soviet Union that it can be a
strategic partner for Iran and has always defended Iran’s stances in
different international arena," Vartan told FNA on Tuesday, reminding
strategic cooperation between Tehran and Yerevan.

He further underlined that Iran and Armenia, as two friendly and
neighboring countries, have a proper understanding of each other’s
realities on the international scene.

The Iranian legislator noted the current visit to Tehran by Armenian
president, and stressed that the two countries have enjoyed ascending
and progressive relations in recent years.

The Armenian president arrived in Tehran on Monday at the head of
a high ranking delegation and was officially welcomed by Iranian
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Elsewhere, Vartan reminded Iran’s stance on the Karabakh conflict,
and added, "Iran has always announced that the Karabakh conflict must
be resolve through diplomacy. Iran has always defended diplomatic moves
(regarding the issue) and has also offered mediation."

Meantime, Ahmadinejad and his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan
also in their meetings in Tehran this week assessed positively the
results of talks on the peaceful resolution of the Karabakh conflict.

In their talks, Sargsyan thanked Ahmadinejad for Iran’s constantly
balanced approach in the resolution of the Karabakh conflict.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
