Exports From Armenia Grow by 17.5%, Imports by 49.7% in 2007

EXPORTS FROM ARMENIA GROW BY 17.5%, IMPORTS BY 49.7% IN 2007 AS
COMPARED WITH 2006

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 8, NOYAN TAPAN. The foreign trade of Armenia amounted
to 1 trillion 506.5 billion drams or 4 bln 439.2 mln USD in current
prices in 2007, including exports of 394.2 bln drams or 1 bln 157.4 mln
USD and imports of 1 trillion 112.3 bln drams or 3 bln 281.8 mln USD.
The foreign trade balance was negative by 718.1 bln drams (2 bln 124.4
mln USD), the balance without goods received as humanitarian aid was
negative by 693.1 bln drams (2 bln 52.4 mln USD).

According to the RA National Statistical Service, exports grew by
17.5%, imports by 49.7% in 2007 on 2006.

Exports from Armenia to CIS countries made 235 mln 763.7 thousand USD
in 2007, growing by 66.8% as compared with 2006, while imports made 910
mln 460.9 thousand USD, growing by 59.3%. Exports to Russia made 201
mln 772.7 thousand USD last year (66.5% growth), imports – 570 mln
477.5 thousand USD, growing by 56.4%. Exports to Georgia made 87 mln
4.6 thousand USD (59.2% growth), imports – 133 mln 585 thousand USD
(76.6% growth); exports to Ukraine made 46 mln 258.5 thousand USD
(2.1fold growth), imports – 176 mln 521.9 thousand USD (61.7% growth).

Exports to EU countries amounted to 566 mln 393.4 thousand USD in 2007,
growing by 19.6% compared with 2006, imports made 968 mln 148.7
thousand USD, increasing by 40.1%. Exports to Belgium made 105 mln
191.1 thousand USD (3.4% decline), imports – 157 mln 355.6 thousand USD
(0.1% growth). Exports to Bulgaria made 45 mln 569.7 thousand USD
(35.5fold growth), imports – 29 mln 964.2 thousand USD (54.3% growth);
exports to Germany – 169 mln 646.1 thousand USD (14.6% growth), imports
– 116 mln 742.6 thousand USD (37.3% growth); exports to France – 9 mln
427.1 thousand USD (2.3fold growth), imports – 65 mln 720.4 thousand
USD (76.9% growth); exports to Greece – 2 mln 740.7 thousand USD (4.2%
growth), imports – 58 mln 278 thousand USD (27.7% decline); exports to
Italy – 30 mln 35.8 thousand USD (3.8% growth), imports – 95 mln 193.5
thousand USD (24.5% growth); exports to the Netherlands – 156 mln 7.4
thousand USD (22.9% growth), imports – 40 mln 357.6 thousand USD (81.6%
growth), exports to the UK – 2 mln 794.6 thousand USD (63.3% decline),
imports – 120 mln 712.9 thousand USD (52.2% growth); exports to Spain –
15 mln 517.7 thousand USD (42.1% decline), imports – 13 mln 240.1
thousand USD (73.7% growth).

Exports to other countries (besides CIS and EU countries) made 236 mln
249.7 thousand USD in 2007 (21% decline), imports – 1 bln 403 mln 227.2
thousand USD (51% growth), including exports to Israel – 26 mln 432.3
thousand USD (69.8% decline), imports – 34 mln 483.9 thousand USD
(60.5% decline); exports to the U.S. – 51 mln 412.9 thousand USD (21%
decline), imports – 206 mln 994.2 thousand USD (51.4% growth); exports
to the UAE – 6 mln 789.5 thousand USD (21.3% growth), imports – 306 mln
855.2 thousand USD (2.1fold growth); exports to Iran – 38 mln 631.8
thousand USD (30.3% growth), imports – 154 mln 467.9 thousand USD
(16.4% growth); exports to Turkey – 2 mln 842.7 thousand USD (19.9%
growth), imports – 125 mln 589.2 thousand USD (41.9% growth); exports
to Switzerland – 49 mln 258.9 thousand USD (31.7% decline), imports –
81 mln 176.2 thousand USD (4.8% decline); exports to China – 7 mln
871.8 thousand USD (17fold growth), imports from China – 84 mln 379.6
thousand USD (60.6% growth).

No goods were imported from Armenia to Panama in 2006. In 2007 exports
to Panama made 50.4 thousand USD, imports from this country amounted to
91 mln 122.1 thousand USD (20.8% growth).
