US Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Fried has declared during the
roundtable discussion with Slovenian journalists that Washington will
insist that Kosovo cannot be a precedent for resolution of other
conflicts, Mediamax reports.
`First of all, the Kosovo case is unique and since there is no other
region in the world to be controlled by the UN under a Security Council
Resolution. As there is nothing of that kind anywhere, it’s obvious
that this case is not a precedent,’ Daniel Fried said.
`We think that Kosovo is not a precedent for the conflicts in South
Ossetia, Abkhazia, Transdnistria, the Caucasus or Texas. We shall
continue insisting on it. We are working with our European partners not
to use it as a precedent, and we hope that Russia will do so that it
does not become a precedent. If they are worried about the threat of
destabilization, they must work with us instead of flirting with
separatists,’ the Assistant Secretary of State Declared.
Daniel Fried noted that Russia has firm bases to think about the
stability in the South Caucasus and possible burst of violence.
`Naturally, we want to work with Russia around a common agenda, but we
are sometimes surprised that Russia supports some separatist enclaves,’
Daniel Fried declared.
