THEY ARE DECIDING AS TO HOW LAWS INFLUENCE DEMOGRAPHICS

With the purpose of making a proper system of demographics become
a reality, international experts have been conducting research in
Armenia since February. As informed to panorma.am by Vardan Marukyan,
head of the center of social and employment issues, the purpose of
the research is to study the state of democraphics in the country. The
group has already examined 50 laws, with results of the study expected
by year’s end.
"For example, we are studying the influence different methodologies
and approaches have had," he said. In the expert’s opinion, social
welfare can contribute to the disintegration of a family, as the same
amount is given to a family with one member as to the family with seven
or ten members. "This doesn’t encourage one to have a large family,"
Marukyan stated.
The expert added that a purpose of the research is to work on the
proposed changes to the laws. Marukyan said that the group of experts
should be able to present their results to the National Assembly,
with definite statistics as to how the laws might influence the
people’s living conditions.
