"In Armenia, around 400 youth organizations are registered, of
which only 10 percent are active," stated Armenian National Congress
youth organization president, Atom Mkhitaryan, while meeting with
journalists. He is convinced that there aren’t even ten active youth
in each of the organizations, and that those who are active often
end up as "part of the ruling authorities."

In Mkhitaryan’s opinion, an issue exists concerning the unifying of
today’s youth, mainly because of the passive nature of that segment of
society. According to his figures, there are some 800 thousand youth
in Armenia today, of which one and a half percent are rated as active.

We point out that during the course of the last year 11 other
organizations were included in the activities of the youth
organization. "Today we have eight applications for membership, which
we need to look over," the group’s vice-president, Mariam Martirosyan,
pointed out. She is convinced that branches of her youth organization
will open in Armenia’s eight provinces in the near future.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
