Birth rate in Armenia decreased by 3.8%, mortality rate by 4.8%

In Armenia, in January-September 2026, compared to January-September 2025, the birth rate was reduced by 3.8%, and the death rate by 4.8%.

This is evidenced by the data published by the Statistical Committee of Armenia.

Birth

In 9 months of 2026, 22,759 children were born in the country, while in the same period of 2025, 23,653 newborns were registered. Moreover, 253 cases of stillbirths were registered during the reporting period, which is 13.1% lower than in the same period of 2025. The population vitality ratio, the ratio of births to deaths, was 124.9% in January-September 2026, compared to 123.6% in the same period last year, and the gender ratio of newborns was 111 boys per 100 girls (calculated per 1,000 live births and stillbirths).

Mortality

In 9 months of the current year, 18,223 people died in Armenia, compared to 19,142 in the same period last year. Almost half of the people (49.9% or 9,086 people) died from diseases of the circulatory system. this indicator is 7.7% less than in January-September 2025.

Among the causes of death, neoplasms are in the second place (22.6% or 4 123 people, an increase of 8.4%). Other causes of death include respiratory diseases (9.8% or 1,779 people, a decrease of 9.6%), digestive diseases (5.4% or 987 people, an increase of 9.5%), accidents, poisoning and injuries (3.8% or 697 people, a decrease of 0.6%), diseases of the endocrine system (2.1% or 389 people, an increase of 9.5%). decrease: 3.5%), infectious and parasitic diseases (0.6% or 102 people, decrease: 60.3%). 25 of the deaths due to accidents, poisonings and injuries (0.1% of the total number of deaths) are due to military operations.

The statistical committee noted that it is about the cases that happened outside the borders of Armenia, the dead were citizens of Armenia, the facts of their death were registered in the Civil Registry.
