NKR: Optimism Becomes More Vigilant

OPTIMISM BECOMES MORE VIGILANT

During the interview given to MEDIAMAX agency yesterday presidential
Press-Secretary Victor Soghomonyan underscored that Robert Kocharyan’s
optimism towards the prospect of the regulation of Karabakh conflict
"has become more vigilant". Victor Soghomonyan said this commenting on
the present stage of the negotiations and emphasizing the announcement
made by official Baku saying that the processes has reached a
deadlock. "Actually it is really difficult to give evaluation to
the present stage of the negotiations. That is why I would prefer
to abstain from making harsh formulations, especially because the
evaluation of the parties regarding the process are of subjective
character. In some way or another, the reality is the negotiations
haven’t shown any results yet. And the reason is obvious for us. It
is the de -constructive attitude of Azerbaijan and their illusion
to go back to 1988 and to edit the history. The existence of The
Republic of Nagorno Karabakh is an undeniable fact and it can’t
become a matter of bargaining. This is the reason why, taking into
consideration the apparent de-constructive policy of Azerbaijan,
President Robert Kocharyan has underscored many times that his
attitude towards the prospect of the regulation is only a vigilant
optimism. Unfortunately it seems the President’s optimism in this
sense has become more vigilant," Victor Soghomonyan underscored. At
the request of MEDIAMAX the Press-Secretary of RA President referred
to the announcement made by Azerbaijani president Heidar Aliev during
his interview given to Kazakhstani newspaper "Express K". The latter
particularly mentioned "…Armenian party is not genuine during the
negotiations, they are trying to gain time by cheating the mediators"
and " if Armenia gives an end to its expansionist policy our relations
will improve and Armenian people will get more by cooperating with
us than from the alms they get from "outside."

"Unfortunately Mrs. Aliev’s political will and courage is adequate
for only making regular impolite announcement. Of course I’m not going
to give special commentary on this, but I would like to mention that
there are people who can care for the future of Armenians, Armenia
and the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh. Better for Mrs. Aliev to think
of his own problems." Victor Soghomonyan said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
