MEETING OF SOUTH CAUCASIAN STATES’ FOREIGN MINISTERS TO BE HELD ON INITIATIVE OF CAUCASIAN-CASPIAN COMMISSION IN AUTUMN IN NEW YORK

YEREVAN, JUNE 14, NOYAN TAPAN. On June 14, RA Foreign Minister
Vartan Oskanian received members of fact-finding delegation of
Caucasian-Caspian Commission being in Armenia on a regional visit. The
latters presented Commission’s activity. Noyan Tapan was informed
about it from RA Foreign Ministry Press and Information Department.

George Reid, member of the delegation (Chairman of the parliament
of Scotland in 2003-2007, Head of the delegation of International
Committee of Red Cross in Armenia in 1988-89), said that the goal
of the Commission is to contribute to cooperation between the Black
Sea Region and European structures, to present new initiativs for
development of regional cooperation. The Chairman of the Commission
is Dimitrij Rupel, Foreign Minister of Slovenia.

The interlocutors discussed the process of settlement of conflicts in
the region accentuating the Nagorno Karabakh problem. They exchanged
thoughts about issues hampering regional cooperation. The Commission
came up with the initiative to organize meeting of three South
Caucasian states’ Foreign Ministers within the framework of the UN
General Assembly to be held in autumn.

It was mentioned at the meeting that the Commission will publish a
report, which will focus on problems of settlement of conflicts in
the South Caucasus, regional cooperation, involvement in international
cooperation organizations, in particular, in the European Union.
