YEREVAN, MAY 16, NOYAN TAPAN. "The May 12 parliamentary elections were
falsified, the falsifications had an impact on election results." Arman
Vardanian, head of Alliance civil initiative, stated at the May 16
press conference.

As he evaluated, the elections were held in the atmosphere of fear
and psychological pressure upon voters. A. Vardanian reported that
the survey of voters held by Alliance after the procedure of voting
gave no results, as "people were afraid of saying for whom they
had voted." Violations during calculation of votes at a number of
polling stations, voter buying, many cases of accumulation of people
at polling stations and other cases did not escape from attention
of observers. A. Vardanian said that representatives of alliance
also registered cases of voters’ having new passports, which caused
certain suspicions.

"Of course, the elections passed in a more civilized way: there were
neither fights, nor stuffing of ballot-boxes. This time the falsifiers
used more subtle mechanisms. We are sorry that international observers
gave positive estimations. On the other hand, they indeed could not
suspect anything," A. Vardanian stated.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
